"It is clear that neither of you frequent the message boards following articles about BYU".

Exactly!! There is no need for it. Some people should follow that example!!

Go Utes!!

Wow apparantly you didn't read my post in it's entirety. And I quote: (from my own previous post) "I find it inappropriate to tear down the other team's fans regardless of who you affiliate yourself with." How did you get that I am justifying his actions? As is typical of fans of both of these universities, facts are ignored and justification is used to make you feel better. My point was to show people like you that you need to look at things from both sides. There are far more supposed 'ute' fans bashing BYU fans than the other way around. Why don't you be a true fan and support your team, win or lose and when you do lose, accept defeat like a man. And to quote David Mitchell who wrote Cloud Atlas, “So winners, Hae-Joo proposed, are the real losers because they learn nothing? What, then, are losers? Winners?”

@ Taj--

I find it to be highly entertaining the length you go to, in order to establish that you're in fact not a fan of either school, yet not only do you relentlessly post comments on threads involving one or both of these two schools, without fail each and every single comment is pro-byu/anti-UTAH.

This leads me to the obvious--

Is your sentiment for byu/against UTAH, that you can't even do the dignified/respectable thing and pay tribute to the subject of this particular article, Karl "The Truth" Williams, and what's he's accomplishing in life.

p.s. As somebody who was born/raised down here in AZ and who grew-up on ASU Football, I've gotten to know a large segment of the USC-fanbase, personally, and not one of them would ever even remotely conceive of coming onto this website, as you yourself do with precision-consistency.

"@Dhunter You said "head straight for Canada" like that's a bad thing."

Ducky has some experience in this--he's such a fair-weather y "fan" he heads to Tulsa every time the Utes thump the cougies. He's been in Tulsa a lot lately, so for him it IS a bad thing.

.. and that offense beat your team 7 of the last 11 years and the last three in a row.

You would have known that, but you were in Tulsa.

@duckhunter (A.K.A. truth machine, bluto, swoop, sammy, etc.)

You must really be paranoid if you think all of those folks are the same person. Most of them haven't even posted a comment on this particular thread.

It's hilarious that Utah fan have pin all of their hopes and dreams on beating BYU nowadays, since the Utes haven't done diddly in their big boy conference.

3 in a row is MEANINGLESS, especially when 2 of the 3, and 13 of the last 16 were decided by a touchdown or less in the closing minutes of the game or in overtime.

If you want to see real dominance, try 19 of 21, 9 in a row, including 27-0, 56-6 and 56-28 back-to-back-to-back!

Well I'm a BYU fan but I will always cheer for a Layton Lancer. Congratulations Karl, hope you have an amazing season...sounds like you've put in the work and sacrifice to make it happen. I love stories like this regardless of whether it's Utah or BYU, it's inspiring. Hopefully Karl will get a lot more touches and opportunities this year.

Some never grow out of the age-old fall-back argument of "But he started it!" Far fewer ironically use it while crying hypocrisy.

Some just make inane comments.

But you see it isn't hypocritical at all, I admit what I am doing and I NEVER complain about utah "fans" that do it. That is the difference and that is what makes utah "fans" hypocrites and me just a guy having a good time.

Karl seems like a good hard worker. I wish him the best in life. But, as a big Celtics fan, I wonder why he stole the true Truth's (Paul Pierce) name.

@Rockwell - your revisionist history referencing 19 of 21 ignores that from 1922 to 1964 the teams played 39 times. There were 4 ties during that time leaving 35 other games. Utah won 33 of those 35 games and many of them were blowouts.

Granted the Y had a great run winning 19 of 21 games back in the 70's and 80'. Of course if you remove those 21 games, Utah leads the remaining all time series by a margin of 54-15-4. Regardless, none of this has anything to do with a great article about a fine young man that happens to play for Utah. Yes the team that leads the all time series by

@ Duckhunter

So when Utah fans do it, they're "fans". But when you do it you're just having a good time... I'm sorry, but I am pretty sure that is the definition of hypocrisy, sir.

@ Rockwell

If you want to see real domination try 41-8-4, including 49-0, 15-0, 35-6, 27-0, 40-7, 20-0, 43-13, 34-7, 43-0, 29-0, 21-6, 43-0, 32-0, 18-0, and 14-0. Go ahead and explain why games played 30 years ago are more relevant today than games played 80 years ago. Also you're lying to yourself if you think the last three years of the rivalry are meaningless. Getting a win this year against Utah is high on the priority list of everybody in BYU's locker room.

How many of those Utah teams from 1922 to 1964 finished in the AP Top 25; in fact, how many times before 1994, 30 years later, did Utah finish in the AP Top 25.

The sad truth for Utah is the Utes, with a 30-year head start, were nothing more than a mediocre team beating up on an even more mediocre BYU team that was little more than a club team; 30 of the first 40 games in the series were played on Utah's home field because the Cougars didn't even have their own stadium.

When BYU finally got serious about football, built their own stadium, and joined with Utah to help create the WAC, Utah was left in the dust.

Utah won its first WAC championship in 1964. BYU won its first WAC championship in 1965.

By the time Utah cracked the AP Top 25 for the FIRST time, in 1994, and won its 2nd WAC championship, in 1995, BYU had won EIGHTEEN WAC championships, a National Championship, a Heisman Trophy, and had finished in the AP Top 25 ELEVEN times.

Since 1962 when the WAC was created, BYU has won 29 of 51.

Yes, we all know the cougars carry such fond memories of the WAC. I'm sure that's why you returned to that conference 2-yrs ago. But just because you circled back to the WAC, that doesn't change the fact that Utah retook command of the series...a long tinge ago. Our futility in the WAC obviously didn't carry over to the MWC our the Pac-12.

The pendulum swung back to Utah 20-yrs ago. How miserable for you.

Well said, Two For Flinching. In any rivalry, the statistics that matter most are the most recent games and the entire body of work. Utah has owned byu 3 in a row, 4 of 5, 8 of 11, and overall 56-34-4.

midpac, you are conveniently leaving out all of the championships the Utes won in the leagues they were a part of prior to the WAC (byu won none). Games and league championships won 30 and 40 years ago are no more relevant now than championships won 70 and 80 years ago. I know that doesn't work in byu's favor. But the bottom line is, the only thing that is relevant is now---the past year or few years.

A favorite topic byu "fans" like to bring up is Utah's adjustment to the PAC 12 and their record. But they conveniently forget that even during this period of adjustment, the Utes have still defeated byu. byu "fans", you have to learn that when your team is getting owned by your rivals, you look foolish to try to trash them.

Karl epitomizes what the utes value and what makes a real man. All the best to you and hoping to see you in the end zone a lot this year!
