I would like to thank everyone who chose to comment on the memorial service held for three of Salt Lake City's fallen firefighters. While we may have very different opinions and feelings concerning this and similar issues, that's okay. We can conduct ourselves with courtesy and grace. There is no reason to point fingers, call names or become derisive in our commentary.
We all have different values and traditions that mean a great deal to us individually and collectively. I choose not to tread on others values and traditions and hope that they will show the same patience and dignity toward me. This is but one of many ways that we, as a society, can grow and strengthen each other.
That is the reason for this type of tribute in the first place. To grow and strengthen the bonds between all of us, fire service, law enforcement, service men and women, plumbers and all other professions and people. Each of us has experienced thins in our lives which other portions of the population will never know and never understand. But that should never devalue the meaning of those experiences to us as individuals.
