I worked at the Missionary Training Center in the late 1970s. One day a couple of teacher supervisors and I quietly (or perhaps clandestinely?) slipped into the back of the meeting room while the Mission Presidents Seminar was taking place. We were there for just a few minutes, but I will always remember a statement I heard while I was in the room. Elder Neal A. Maxwell, then of the Presidency of the Seventy, was conducting the meeting. As Elder Maxwell announced Elder Boyd K. Packer as the next speaker, he referred to his beloved friend and associate as "the master teacher of this dispensation." And so he is, in my estimation. I have been trying to be an effective teacher for over thirty years. Boyd K. Packer is my inspiration and role model, he and my mission president, the late Robert B. Arnold. Both of these men are/were extraordinary teachers who have set a lofty standard that is worthy of emulation.

This honor for President and Sister Packer is well deserved. Congratulations!

I'd like to publicly thank my alma mater for standing up to a small, but forceful group of people that disagreed with the naming of this Center for Family and Community Education. Despite the opinions of the LGBT community, Elder and Sister Packer are one of the greatest examples of dedication and concern for the families of the world.
