Congratulations BYU on a great 3-game sweep of Penn St to advance to the NCAA
Men's Volleyball National Championship on Saturday!
Thebigsamoan probably didn't mean Sunday School boys as a derogatory term,
but it is a strange characterization of championship athletes. If that were the
unique quality of the BYU team, most coaches would start sending their athletes
Re:BigSamoan and thanks to papi-chuloPenn State has won three national
championships, one fewer than BYU. BYU started NCAA play about when Penn State
won their first championship. For most of this entire season the top ten have
all been western schools. Penn State was occasionally ranked fifth or worse and
Loyola was never in the top ten. In the history of the forty-one NCAA
championships there have only been three champions from east of BYU -- Penn
State twice and Ohio State once. BYU has been ranked #1 most of the season and
has two on the 1st team All-America team and Ben Patch as newcomer of the year.
And the MPSF Coach of the year. Chris McGowan. So these RMs and Sunday School
boys are doing just fine thank you.
@ thebigsamoan ...sunday school boys?? And you are a BYU fan?
Odd. Penn State has only won two National Championships in Mens volleyball
ever...they won in 2008 and then back in 1994. So even though they may have
been in the final four, it doesn't mean much, because mens volleyball is a
lot different than other sports tournaments. There are only 3 conferences that
get automatic bids and then one at large bid that make up the final four every
year. So if you win your conference tournament, then you automatically get to
go to the final four. And to be honest, volleyball is a west coast sport, not
an east coast sport. There are a lot better competition with all of the
California and Hawaii schools than the competition that Penn State plays...such
as Harvard or Princeton. Not saying that they aren't good, but just saying
that it is my opinion that the competition out west is better. And since I have
played competitive volleyball against both east and west coast, I think my
opinion is a pretty valid one.
Looking forward to a great match up against Penn State. I'm a little
nervous about hearing that Penn State has been in the final four consecutively
the last 15 years. Hmmm, sounds like the Sunday School boys have got their work
cut out for them tonight. I wonder how many NC Penn State won during their long
run of Final Four appearances, anyone know? I'm just curious! But it
should be a very exciting match up though, and I can't wait!Go
