Was at the game with my wife. These guys are really fun to watch. Wish I could go to UCLA to watch the National title games. (Wife is hosting at BYU Women's conference so were going to watch on TV or the internet) Maybe I can get to the Rugby National Title game. Good hunting guys, bring home the Trophies!!!

What a team! And what a great sport! The competition is fiercely competitive and the matches are so incredibly close. Thanks Cougars for giving us fans a great season. Two more wins would be just incredible. I cannot recall such enthusiasm in my home.

Awesome effort boys! Winning makes watching BYU sports so much fun. Already looking forward to watching the final four this weekend. Too bad other Utah schools don't have teams competing in this sport. It would've been fun to see how all Utah teams fared against each together. Likewise, this sport also seems to be totally nonexistent here in the east, especially among the SEC, ACC, and other major conferences. I wonder why?

Even so, great run for the Cougars so far! Hope they bring home the trophy again.
Go Cougars!

Watched the UCLA game and this game on TV. Far more exciting than watching PGA golf, major league baseball or even the NBA for sure!

Penn State and Ohio State both have excellent men's volleyball teams, but the main reason more schools don't have men's volleyball - football and Title IX. In order to balance the number of scholarships for men and women, most schools can't afford to sponsor men's volleyball.

It is good to see the team is clicking on all cylinders going into the nationals.
I am still a little bothered by the setter play however. You have the NPOY on your team and he gets about 1/2 or less the sets that Patch gets. Don't get me wrong. Patch is one of the best outside hitters in the league and a very important reason for BYU's success. But Sander is still a little stronger hitter and more experienced, but Boyce clearly favors Patch over Sander, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think they would be more effective as a team if the ball were distributed more evenly.

I think this team will be very good next year, depending on the quality of play of Patch's replacement at OH. As good as this team is right now, they would be even better next year if Patch were to return for one more year before his mission...... Yeah, I know. Those darn priorities ;-)

I'm really disappointed at the NC pairings. Giving UC Irvine the at-large berth wasn't so bad, although it seemed like LBSU's number 2 ranking and the fact that they beat the Anteaters in the MPSF tournament would get them the bid. However, to seed Loyola number 3 and stick BYU with the semi-final match up with Penn State was a real error.

The semi-final match is the real title game. If BYU gets knocked out in the semi-final, there will be a lot of disappointed BYU fans.

I've heard that BYU's Santiago was chair of the selection committee. If so, Cougar fans have a right to be really upset.

@ Blue Coug,

Thanks for the enlightenment. I guess my head is too deep into the sand and BYU sports that I'm totally oblivion to the nuances that covers all the sports. To be honest, I don't even know what Title IX is or what it entails but I suppose it has to do with football gobbling up all the money leaving little or none for the other sports, is that it?. What a shame!
Anyhow, thanks for enlightening me bro! Very much appreciated. No wonder the big boys in football and basketball, eg. Alabama, LSU, Mia, Mich, Fla. State, N.C, Duke, Kentucky, etc, don't have volleyball and rugby in their schools sports programs. Again, what a darn shame!

As for the Cougars run in both sports, all I can say is Cheeeehhhoooooo! Beautiful can't even describe it for me. I just love, love, love it! Go Cougars!!!

Going into the Conference Tournaments, Loyola was actually ranked higher than Penn State, (even though Penn State had a better overall record). So that is probably the reason Loyola got seeded higher than Penn State. On the same token, Long Beach State was ranked higher than UC Irvine on the national polls and LBSU beat UC Irvine in the Tourney, so LBSU really should have gotten the bid. In my mind LBSU got totally hosed by the selection committee in favor of the defending national champions.

Patch probably deserved tournament MVP. But interestingly, not only did he not get MVP, he didn't even make the all tournament 1st team. What's up with that? Sander was selected as the tourney MVP and Young and Rivera joined him on the All MPSF Tournament 1st team.

@idablue

Penn State and Loyola played during the season and Penn State won in a sweep, 3-0.

The LBSU game seemed even more exciting than the UCLA match. It's great to have such TV coverage.

It looks like the semifinals will be streamed on NCAA.com Thursday, BYU at 11pm EST. The championship game will be the following Saturday at 9pm EST on ESPNU. I wish BYUTV would pick up the semifinals.

Big Samoan--- Title IX is the ruling that says you have to have as many women's sports as men's. Since women don't play football, there has to be another sport that is just women to compensate. For a lot of schools, that's volleyball. I'm not sure about every sport at BYU but I know we dropped men's gymnastics a few years ago which is one place that may allow for men's volleyball. Some may do it with women's field hockey or something else. Hope that helps.
