The latest issue of the Harvard Business Review has an article about
'givers and takers,' and it notes how people who are overly generous
with their time to support others (givers) often lose out on their own ability
to get work done and burn out. Sadly, many people who are the "glue"
that hold organizations together by playing mentor/support roles often go
unnoticed and unappreciated.
I the 70's when my boss liked what I was doing he give me a 2 bit raise
right then. in the 80's it was a 4 bit raise. in the 90's and early
2's so now to to only get the 2 bit raise is a heart ache to know that the
gratitude isn't what it use-to be. rent, food, utilities and life makes it
hard to put gas in the car to go to work.
