QB Trevor Wilson? Really DNews?

How many corners and safeties, on active NFL rosters at the same time, will the U have their stamp on?

Looking forward to the upcoming season.

Go Utes!

all UofU DBs run a low 4.2 in the 40. Olympic level speed.

Hopefully the D is more Ball Hawky than last year.

No more comments from U about the age of BYU players, now that U are supporting an AARP member in the backfield. A 21 year old Freshman, who didn't take 2 years off for a mission. Wow!

"all UofU DBs run a low 4.2 in the 40. Olympic level speed."

Which Olympic event are you referring to. The 40-Yard dash? The U puts an unproportional amount of DBs into the NFL. What leads you to believe they aren't really fast? Of course, BYU fans aren't exactly experts on fast corners, are they? Or NFL ready corners? Or NFL anythings?

UtahUtesFan08: I'm just commenting on how they probably have missed their calling to be world-class sprinters. Those 40 times convert into awesome 60-, 100-, and 200-meter times. The U could probably field a VERY competitive olympic team all by themselves - the Ute Nation Olympic Squad.

BYU wastes schollies on athletes that are slow and unathletic and who play their team up to a Top 10 defense. Oh well. Congrats.

P.S. Are you looking forward to the 2013 NFL draft?

Blue: They still aren't fast enough for us. Bronco only recruits pure speed.

How many 21-yr old redshirt freshmen are on the U's team? How many are on the Y's team? If there are substantially more on the Y's team, then yes, Utah fans can still talk.

Yep. You know what's faster than speed? A good scheme, smart athletes who are in position, and all defenders pursuing the ball. Speed is great, but it's rendered useless when out of position or in a bad angle.

"BYU wastes schollies on athletes that are slow and unathletic"

Couldn't have said it any better myself. No, in all seriousness, BYU isn't wasting anything. It's seemingly the best they can do.

And yes, I'm most definitely looking forward to the draft. I really like Ziggy's story. Star is a first class dude, too. Excited for these guys.

Also, just curious, do you think that BYU's defense would have been as highly ranked had it played Utah's schedule? I'm not denying that BYU's team D was good last year, just curious to hear your take.

Since 2004, Utah has WON two BCS bowls and had 22 players drafted. BYU has... won... shoot, something right? Looks like they have had 9 players get drafted though. That's a whopping 4 more than Abilene Christian has had! DNews won't let me post the links to the draft stats, but I'm sure you can find them!

Woohoo team D! It doesn't win championships, and it doesn't get you drafted. Come play for BYU!

How have those "good schemes" and "smart athletes" done against Utah's speed 8 of the last 11 years? Just curious.

BYU can get a goose egg in the draft, I don't really care. As long as they're good AT BYU, I'm good. BYU's defense is team-first, not shaved 40 times. That's just superficial and matters only to scouts for the draft. Our D didn't give up too many points to BSU, USU, Wazzu, Georgia Tech, or ND. It did slip up on SJSU and Utah, however. No need to call such a solid D in question, that's below you.

Good luck in the draft and with impressing the scouts.

Who's the new QB Trevor Willson? Seriously?

Ernest T. Bass

Blue: Exactly. Speed can never make up for a bad angle. Scheme always beats speed.

I've yet to witness JT in person, but from the film I've seen of him playing, accounts written in the media and detailed-reports from insiders, his athleticism is second-to-none and has the potential to surpass all of our great CBs preceding him in his accomplishments and ultimately earn legendary-status w/in our program. He's surpassed all expectations to date, so I see no reason whatsoever that he won't, in fact, fulfill all of his hype and then some.

@ Face

WAZZU? Are you serious? Also, you forgot to mention being absolutely torn-apart by OSU's O at home, to boot. Face it, byu benefited yet again by a weaker Strength-of-Schedule and their reality is they've essentially only beat one good team in recent memory, USU. I don't consider SDSU to be in this same category. You tout byu's D, but in reality they faced weaker competition and now Van Noy, whom I do consider to be an elite-player, is faced w/stepping back onto the field w/out his supporting cast from last season and w/a typically weak secondary, which was hurt further by losing their J.C. transfer to a season-ending injury.

I get that byu secures the pre-season NC, annually, but now they inch a little bit closer towards playing against what UTAH has been playing against the past couple of years, a legitimate week in, week out grind of a schedule and do so w/an extremely inexperienced D, a horrible o-line, an inexperienced, injury-prone QB and bm as their HC. Prepare for an extremely long season upcoming.

You know what's even better than that? An easy home cooked scheduled.

"Our D didn't give up too many points to BSU, USU, Wazzu, Georgia Tech, or ND."

BSU, Wazzu, Georgia Teh, and ND didn't score very many points against anybody. Georgia Tech...seriously??

Rise and Shout, byu "D!"

MyPerspective, to be fair, GT did average 33 ppg last year, albeit against pretty bad ACC defenses, and didn't do as well against the decent ACC and SEC defenses they faced. But yeah, Boise, Wazzu and Notre Dame were all bad offensive teams (as was Utah).
