This is a beautiful example of a problem which many women experience due to their low self image. I can't say I know why it exists, but I have known many women who fit the mental "type" which prevents otherwise attractive, sometimes even gorgeous, women from seeing their better points due to seeing only their "flaws".

I believe some of this may be due to the way women are marketed to by the companies which sell products only for women, intended to help them accentuate and/or cover up some trait or feature of their face, hips, breasts, and so on, so they feel more comfortable with themselves and thus, actually DO look more beautiful because of the change in their attitude about themselves, and not necessarily because of the actual physical change.

My wife suffers from this self-image deficiency, even though I have always felt she is pretty. She thinks some features are too large and some too small. I will show this to her, and hope it may help her see that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, even when the beholder is yourself!
