Sim Gill is a real breath of fresh air in what seems too often to be a mess of dishonesty.
So lets make sure I understand this correctly. One of the officers that shot(murdered?) Danielle Willard, is also the subject of an investigation into his credibility. The WVPD also refused to release info on Danielle's shooting until 5 months after the fact, when normally you can get that info within hours of an officer involved shooting. But nothing shady is going on......... Ya, for some reason I find that really hard to believe.
My heart goes out to her family, but let's be honest with ourselves; if she hadn't been trying to "score" in the first place, she wouldn't have found herself in the line of fire. It's easy to feign anger at the officers who place themselves in danger every day to try and protect some semblance of order in our society, but it's only common sense to remember that the junkies in the equation aren't exactly "model citizens".
While waiting for more information, which seems very tardy in surfacing,I am of the opinion that something is rotten not only in Denmark (apologies to the Bard) but also in West Valley City. This is a classic case if circling the wagons and stonewalling. People know much more but either are complicit or afraid to come forward. Or both. I think both Salt Lake Papers are negligent in not seriously investigating this whole mess. It seems like the legal system is taking a nap on this one.
It doesn't matter how bad law enforcement gets, there will always be those who come out and say that they're all wonderful people who risk their lives for us every day. There will always be those who find the ones they perceive as having authority, and they will yield to that authority every single time, right or wrong. Scary phenomenon, but it's always been that way.
