The statement that poverty in the United States and Latin America is different is very true. In Latin America there is a disctinct class structure, and people rarely, if ever, move from one class to another.
There is some of that in the United States, but not much. For all the talk about the gap between rich and poor in the United States what is often not mentioned is that most people move from group to another. The economic differences remain, but the people actaully in the group changes. The "poor" in the United States are often simply those just getting started in their careers, as their career progresses, so does their economic status.
