"Postseason could be a possibility for Utes"

You're always good for a laugh Mike, but you're allowing your Utah homerism to cloud your vision of reality.

@snack pac

What does Utah's post season possibilities matter to an anti-Ute like yourself? Why not follow your own team and their own post season options?

I'm not crossing my fingers...actually that is exactly what I am doing.

Layton, UT

I say let's call it a day and go home. The program is headed in the right direction, but we don't have anything left to prove this year.

I've heard some pretty strong rumors that the Utes are going to take a CBI invite. I'd rather they didn't, there's much more respect and momentum to lose than to gain from it. But if we do and host a game or two, I'll be there, but it just won't be the same as the regular season. We'll see what happens.

And Cougie Nation goes into a panic!

Great Pac-12 tournament run Utes! You represented the state well. I'm looking forward to next year.

Springville, UT

It would be another Ute 'moral victory' if the invite happens.

And by the way... you've never been on a BYU story. LOL

Cougar Nation "panicked" about the Utes possibly getting an invite to the church basketball invitational?

More like amused.

In all actuality Utah will probably make a post season tournament. There are four not three. After the NCAA and the NIT, there is the CBI and the CIT. I would not be surprised at all to see Utah in one of them. They are playing very well right now.

So if the NIT bis the consolation prize what the heck is the CIB? A tourney for losers? The Utes should turn it down so they don't lay an egg. They should end on a high note and call it a season. Next year will be a train wreck with their seniors leaving.

Cinci Man

Wow. I would love to see Utah and BYU meet for the CBI championship game. That would be a story!

Idaho Falls, ID

"The 16-team CBI has a history of taking teams with losing records from the Pac-12 Conference."

Has Utah basketball really sunk so far that the preceding line is good news?

@ EdGrady

Yes. Utah hit its lowest point in history last year, so getting into any post season tournament this year is considered a success. Plus it gives the underclassmen more practice time and more experience in a tournament setting.

To think, 2 short seasons ago, this is what this season's PAC-12 Tourney Champ UO was busy accomplishing [in The CBI]--

"In 2011, it was Oregon’s turn, being invited with a 16-17 record and going on to win the whole thing, beating Creighton in the finals."

Mesa, AZ

Interesting, how differently the directions were, which UTAH-byu went in following their mtg months ago, w/byu's SOS virtually twice UTAH's, to boot....UTAH clearly trended-up, while byu clearly trended-down, culminated by USD x 2 & USF 99 at home....Truly odd to see byu fans on here w/their vitriol.

Fun fact--

UTAH had 4 victories over the RPI Top-53....byu had zero....Montana ended up being byu's best win, RPI-wise, although Montana did end up playing against the #257 ranked SOS.

Las Vegas, NV

Why engage the byU trollers one-on-one? Truth and logic means nothing to them. It doesn't matter what good Utah does, they will always be stalking the stories to spread their anti-Utah diatribe!

The facts are clear, simple and indisputable: Utah exceeded expectations this year and gave all Ute fans something good to cheer for. An invite to any tournament, especially playing in the PAC-12, is a major accomplishment, but for this year only.

byU totally underwhelmed and left their fans flat. Not playing in the NCAA is a huge let down, especially playing in the weak (except Gonzaga only) wcc.

Go Utes! Go Coach K and all the staff!

Let's clear one thing up! Any tournament that is NOT the NCAA tournament is a consolation prize. Sorry Cougs! The NIT is not that great or prestigious of a tournament anymore. The CBI tournament is not that great either. BYU flopped this year! Utah exceeded expectations this year.

Unfortunately for U, seasons are evaluated in their entirety, not by a brief 4-game spurt at the end.

Bottom line:

#65 BYU(21-11) - 8th straight 20+ win season - NIT bound (in a rebuilding season)
#152 Utah(15-18) - 6th losing season in the last 8 - couch potato bound (always rebuilding)

The best of the WCC, Gonzaga, is ranked #1 and will be a #1 seed.
The best of the PAC, Oregon, isn't ranked and will get a #9 seed.

A disappointing season for BYU was still vastly better than all but one season for the Utes in the last 8 years - and let's not forget, we still own U!

149 to 145 overall, 7 in a row, 11 of the last 12

Despite your clueless greater-success-against-a-stronger-SOS diatribe, U only had a pathetic 13 wins versus D-1 opponents, and five of your losses came against RPI 150+ teams:

#180 Ore St
#192 Wash St
#218 SMU
#238 CS Northridge
#282 Sac St

U did have a nice little 4-game spurt to end the season, but overall, U were by far the worst team in the state of Utah.

#65 BYU(21-11)
#92 Weber St(26-6)
#108 Utah St(21-10)
#152 Utah(15-18)

BYU swept its in-state opponents; Utah was winless against in-state foes.

"Let's clear one thing up! Any tournament that is NOT the NCAA tournament is a consolation prize."

True, but your vain attempt to place all post season tournaments besides the NCAA at the same level is laughable.

There is a very definite pecking order in post season tournaments. Regular season conference champions that lose in their conference tournament are GUARANTEED an NIT bid, if they don't get an at-large bid to the NCAA.

If the Utes are invited to the CBI, it will be because they aren't good enough to be invited to the NCAA or the NIT.

And, let's not forget that the NCAA doesn't include all of the Top 68 teams, so the NIT includes many teams like Kentucky, but would never include a team as bad as Utah.
