The one thing I don't like about the parable of the bicycle: it gives the
impression we can "earn" part of "the cost" of our exaltation.
This can lead to a misinterpretation of Nephi's 'saved by grace after
all we can do'. That verse has been used against us by critics of LDS
doctrine. In reality, the "all we can do" is done out of obedience--not
with the thought of earning anything. Christ's Grace, through the atonement
covers all the "cost" of our exaltation. That does not mean, however,
that they're aren't consequences for disobedience. There are, and they
are quite severe!
