When I read stupid articles like this I just cringe because people actually believe this stuff! First, let's step back and realize that the credit score is simply a measure of you paying back what you borrowed - it has nothing about your actual net worth. The article states "It can be difficult to qualify for credit cards and loans without a significant credit history to rely upon, especially if you have not yet secured a job." Good! Who needs a credit card? Most people get into credit card debt and those creditors are ruthless. I'm teaching my kids to never use credit. It is a falsehood that a credit a score is takes a "large role in getting a job." It is also ridiculous to play the game that paying off early may hurt your credit. Why be in debt longer just to keep the almighty score up? Simply put - don't get into debt to start with. There are ways to complete school without debt. Sheesh!
