Let's just be consistent here. If you really dont think an 18 year old is an adult, dont let them vote or serve in the military.

If you think an 18 year old should be able to vote, serve in the military, and move out of their parents house and be an adult, then let them make their own choices.

Yep, agreed. If it's ok to go to war and risk death for your country, then it should be ok to make the choice to do porn. It's a bad choice of course, but it is the individuals right to choose. Maybe since the age to drink is 21, then we should raise the age to vote, and enter the military to that age as well. It's a little weird that you can risk death at 18 for your country, but you can't have a drink with your family in a restaurant.

People 18 years old are either "adults" and emancipated and able to make their own decisions, enter contracts, vote, etc, or not.

Unless, of course it involves healthcare, in which case "children" cannot be treated as "adults' until after age 26.

I'd gladly eliminate 18 year old porn stars if they will also end eligibility to collect welfare at 18, or vote, or borrow money.

DN subscriber, it's not having it both ways because at 18 they are perfectly eligible to enter into a contract with an insurance provider as long as they can find one they can afford. They don't have to rely on their parents and I'm sure some don't. However if forced to pay for their own they simply wouldn't. What kid going to college or working an entry level job can afford 500 to 1000 dollars a month for insurance they probably won't need..until they do and then we're stuck with the bill. This has nothing to do with being liberal, it's simply trying to make sense of a broken system that provides acess to health care.

You refer to King as making "mistakes". The only mistake was that she got paid to "participate", ran for Miss Delaware, and her past was uncovered, so to speak. Some might say the mistake was her running for the title.

For decades, the rule for the movie industry has been that an actor/actress must be 18 to appear nude in a film. Of course they flirt with that limit. Have you called similarly for Hollywood to postpone filming such actors/actresses until a later year?

You forgot also that King did this on her own accord and got paid. She wasn't coerced.

18 is the decidedly legal age in this country. Personally, I wouldn't want to see anyone engage in this industry, but instead of fretting about ages, how about showing more concern for whatever events or influences in this woman's life that led her to become a porn star straight out of high school?

Or better yet, let's focus our attention on the much younger porn stars--children who are exploited by those with perverse appetites.

Ironic - at 17, with parents permission (18 without it) you can die in the Military over in the Middle East.

Reminder - here in Utah you can get married or have consentual sex at 18 -- and with parental consent can even get married at age 14.

I think the government has instituted rights of passage at all age levels.

For example, 16 gives you the right to drive a car.
You can marry at different ages from as young as 14 in some states with parental consent.
18 the right to serve in the military, vote and be fully accountable for your crimes.
21 the right to drink alcohol and gamble (where legal).
25 the age to run for the House of Representatives.
30 the age to run for the Senate
35 the age to run President of the United States.

I guess 26 is the cutoff age for insurance, maybe a good practical age for economic reasons. I don't see any "inconsistency" there per se.

I generally agree at age 18 you probably should be making most adult decisions. Perhaps 21 would be more appropriate for porn movie participation, which is in line for drinking and gambling. But again the government has set standards for age for many things so at one level there is no inconsistency as noted from the first couple of posts...

I found the video and watched it. In it she doesn't do anything that isn't done by many married people and at 18 she is old enough to be married.
