However long it takes; do a thorough investigation, provide an accurate and complete timeline for who knew what and when, and then hold everyone accountable.
If allegations of abuse have been known for 5 years, why did it take so long for the university to act?
If nothing serious happened, then why was Winslow suddenly suspended right before the conference championships, and then suddenly fired soon after?
Boosters, fans and citizens of the state of Utah have a right to know how this happened and what should have been done to prevent it.
The investigators are certianly not "independent of the university". One is a former trustee and utah alum of the year. What a sham.
The local stories never mentioned the ties between the investigators and the u Of u. Thank you yahoo for breaking this story.

"The investigators are certainly not "independent of the university". One is a former trustee and utah alum of the year. What a sham."
Just because Sullivan is a former trustee and Utah alum and Glazier is known as "the Cleaner" for his work with helping college athletic departments that have faced NCAA inquiries "mitigate" the consequences, doesn't mean they can't conduct an impartial investigation.
Ducky, it must be wonderful to know the future before it happens. Now you are claiming the investigation to be a sham before it is even conducted. Can you also predict the weather?

It must be wonderful to be so naive that you'll buy hook, line, and sinker everything the UofU PR machine throws out there.
What's the likelihood of two paid hired guns conducting an impartial investigation into this growing scandal?
Didn't anybody in admin at the U learn anything from Penn State?
Rock,
You,the media and the byu fans are not the investigators. Dr. Hill can answer questions from the public any way he wants. So as not to taint the investigation he said there would be full disclosure at the conclusion.
Ute haters,
Have your fun with this, but as pertaining to sports on the field, the Utes have your number all the way around.
I believe the media can play a role by investigating the investigators. Are they qualified and impartial as the "U" suggests, or should we suspect "the fix is in" as some on this board are claiming. Other than that, we all need to stand back and let them do their job.
Who's in charge of the athletic department? Speaking as an alum of an East Coast university, don't sweep it under the rug as simply U-hating. There's the smell of Penn State and every tax payer has a stake in Utah's reputation. Hiding behind "I had no idea what was going on," from Penn St.'s AD and president, Ronald Reagan on Iran-gate or Hillary Clinton on Benghazi is not sufficient.

"Ute haters, Have your fun with this..."
NOBODY with any sense of decency takes pleasure in an athlete being abused by his/her coach.
Only a shallow fan with no concept of decency would try to turn this into a rivalry debate.
The public not only has a right, but a duty to demand answers from administrators of any public institution that allows abuse of its students to occur without doing anything to stop it. That public includes BYU fans who are residents of the state of Utah as much as any Utah fan.
As other bloggers have already questioned:
If Greg Winslow didn't do anything wrong, why was he fired?
If he did do something bad enough to be fired, why did it take so long to fire him?
It remains to be seen whether the investigators will even address these questions.

Utah "fans" need to get off their high horse. I have had enough of the patronizing attitude. The fact is if this were a story about a BYU swim coach there would be over 200 comments with endless criticism from Utah "fans" about what a horrible thing it is that BYU allowed this to happen. Go back and look how offended they got over Max Hall's comments when if you do a little investigating you find out that Morgan Scalley and Paul Kruger said far worse things about BYU. It's offensive, this double standard they live by. I can't speak for other BYU fans, but I for one am just a little fed up with it.
Now that I have ranted, let me just say that sadly Chris Hill will probably lose his job over this; whether he should or not. I think Hill is a very good AD who has done things for Utah that may never be matched. That is the part of this that is horrible.
ekute,
One more thing. You are not even close to having our number "all the way around".
What is your record against BYU in Bball the last ten years. Utah doesn't even come close to BYU in all around athletics. Volleyball, Track and field, Rugby, Lacrosse....you get the picture.
Seems like Utah is trying Penn St.'s defense of pass the buck and I didn't know. Hill should have known and should have followed up on the allegations until he knew. It's his job. Here comes the NCAA, goodbye athletics. NCAA is so thrilled to have to work with another "cover -up" University.
Brad: Was better communication in swim scandal really the problem?
Not saying there's anything sinister here, but it is curious
- that Pete Oliszczak, the assistant AD in charge of the swimming program, abruptly left the university and moved out of state last fall, just before the recent drama began
- that two months later the UofU Dept of Public Safety was informed that Greg Winslow was being investigated for allegedly sexually abusing a teen-aged girl while coaching in Arizona, but asked that the investigation be kept secret and not revealed to Utah's athletic dept
- that Utah received numerous complaints about Winslow abusing Utah swimmers, but didn't act until a blogger broke the story in February, after which Utah quickly suspended Winslow
- that just a couple weeks later, Utah suddenly fired Winslow without announcing why, and then suddenly launched an "independent" investigation to be headed up by a Utah Alumni with very strong ties to the university
Nothing sinister, but it is curious that all of this could be going on right under Chris Hill's nose, without him knowing anything about it, because of "poor communication".
Just to recap:
A school is aware of abuse allegations but does nothing until the story breaks in public.
The abuse was reported to higher ups but nothing happened.
The AD heard about it and "immediately" forwarded an email to the University President but nothing was done.
The AD isn't sure who knew what but is doing an "independent" investigation led by people with strong ties to the university.
OK, so I now understand what happened at Penn State. Can someone explain this University of Utah scandal?
Communication was taking place, Hill didn't like what he was hearing, so he didn't listen.
They should fire everyone up their. This is a huge scandle and shows how bad things are over their.
