I don't think it's a good fit. If you call playing against teams that show twice the emotion and grit than you do, then I guess it's a good fit!

I know a lot of people with the wcc and its two bids. The wcc will get 5! Which is the better place to be? It's a no brainer. I know the coaches have to toe the party line but independence in football has come at a great price to other sports.

With your 1-8 record against st Mary's and Gonzaga I would have to agree that those two teams think you are a good fit.

Pepperdine and lollipop Maryland were sometimes giving Gonzaga and st Mary's some challenges, nice for them to have some automatic wins with byu

I disagree that the WCC is a good fit for us... There are 9 schools with an average attendance of about 5,000 students... BYU has 30,000 students...

If BYU were in the MWC or one of the BCS Conferences attendance and enthusiasm would triple,Recruiting would be twice as eash, and the best part is that scheduling would be about 10 times better.

To say that the WCC is a good fit is simply saying that I don't want to rock the Administration's or the Board of Trustee's Boat...

The folks calling the shots for BYU Athletics have messed up big time in not actively pursuing a larger conference membership and now that the mess has occured the Politically Correct thing to do is to fein happiness with Independence and with the WCC... Well this is one BIG COUGAR FAN that says Hogwash to all of that... BYU belongs in a conference with schools it's size and who compete on the highest levels.

The Decision Makers are making bad choices for BYU Athletics and it is beginning to show on the field and on the court and in our recruiting (particularly Football)...

Ttis entire article makes this Cougar fan so ill! It is the biggest crock of PR nonesense, and is only cover since the administration wants perhaps more time for a potentially expanding Big 12 to make room and accomodate them? That would be the best scenario for BYU Athletics, and makes sense if they are trying to avoid the pitfall of returning to the MWC.

But BYU to the NIT? I wouldn't hold your breath since they favor .500 teams from the high profile leagues that don't get into the NCAA. The CIT is a "maybe" but a very big "maybe." This might just be the first Dave Rose team to sit out the post season completely, but hopefully it won't be Rose's last at BYU. Oklahoma nearly got him 2 years ago and Utah desperately wanted him, and it would not surprise me sadly for BYU if he chose to leave largely due to the league alignment situation in Provo making his job here more difficult.

For the official record the vast majority of BYU fans dislike the WCC, and would prefer returning to the MWC if the Big 12 doesn't happen.

28-25 in tournament games does not bode well for saying how good they are over the years. If they can't do any better than they have done in the WCC why encourage them to be at the bottom of a tougher league. I agree they live at the existence of football and that makes recruiting tough.

More like the WCC believes BYU is a great fit for them... I am not crying over the loss last night to San Diego... BYU has proven for over 100 years that they are not a title contender... So a one and done run is not fun in my book. Especially not fun at the risk of Gonzaga losing their #1 ranking... GO ZAGS!

Poyman, I like most of what you said...but it's hard to compete at a higher level than #1 Gonzaga.

Well put.

Well said oyman...at the rate things are going BYU could end up having to drop football...this has been a joke of "appeasement" to those in the BYU decision making body who don't want BYU to be more relevant than Utah State.

Coach Rose is making the best of the situation he is in. The MWC is by far a better fit and gets more respect with the media. It will definitely get more bids, possibly four to the WCC's two, possibly one.

WCC is high school gyms and high school officiating. The tv times are awful for those of us fans living to the east of the Mountain time zone. Gonzaga is the only worthy opponent in the WCC (St Mary's has vaulted itself with loads of NCAA violations and will soon flame out).

I didn't like the MWC and still don't, but the basketball options for BYU are pretty slim unless the new Big East decides (as has been rumored) to add a western division that would include Gonzaga and, maybe, BYU.

While I do agree that the WCC is not a perfect fit for BYU since the other schools are much smaller student population wise and the MWC is better overall (5 NCAA Invitations versus 2), I really do enjoy seeing my Cougars play live in Northern California quite a few times a year in different sports. Furthermore, University of the Pacific will be joining the WCC, which is just 30 minutes from the house. The only conference that could satisfy my desire for live viewership is joining the PAC-12, which probably won't ever happen. That would allow me to see BYU play Stanford and Cal live quite a few times a year. Finally, the WCC schools match BYU's values better than the MWC schools. There's also too many anti-Mormon fans at MWC schools, especially at Wyoming and San Diego State. Regardless, I'll continue cheering for my Cougars regardless of the conference BYU affiliates itself with.
