Good start to the 2nd half cutting the Stanford lead to 4, but then the Cardinal woke up and pushed their lead back to double digits and the Utes never threatened again.
DuBois played a great game, but not much help from anyone else.
The Utes play hard, they just aren't very good.
Chris B still loves her bcs membership.
Fact checker:
The Cardinal jumped out to a double-digit lead, then the Utes cut it to four to begin the 2nd half.
The Utes are now 3-13, 11-17, not 3-14, 11-18.
Utah has little chance of beating Oregon on Saturday, so OSU in the HC on Thursday will be Utah's last chance to exceed their 3 conference win total from last season. OSU played Oregon tough on the road, so even the OSU game isn't a gimme.
Still think coach k will take us back to where we belong
More consistent scoring, but bad defense, bad effort by the bench, and great play by Stanford busted it wide open. He's definitely not their best player, but I think the most important player for Stanford is John Gage because of the matchup problems he creates. Congrats to Gabriel Harris, Stanford's lone senior, he played a great game on senior day.
How quickly the game changes from "chance to close the gap to 2" to "down by 13". Great that the Utes can fight their way back, but we need a go-to scorer who can kill those streaks by the other team. Gage was wicked for Stanford with those deadly 3 pointers at just the right time.
As bad as this team is, the problem is that the best players are seniors. Going to have to start all over again next year.
Kiboo laments "the best players are seniors. Going to have to start all over again next year."
That's why its great that so many freshmen are getting so much playing time -- so next year isn't starting over again. Coach K has been developing the young talent, something many Jazz fans wish their coach would do.
Senior Jared DuBois leads the Utes at 12 points/game, but right behind him is freshman Jordan Loveridge at 11.6 points/game. The Utes will be fine next year.
Stanford is a horrible matchup for Utah because of their size. They aren't as good as some of the teams Utah has bet this year, but the Utes don't have a lot of length.
It's true that the Utes will lose so seniors but so does every team every year in college so that is always something that coaches will have to work with. As much as it will hurt to lose the leadership, the Utes have a number of freshmen that have played big minutes so that will help them next year as well as a couple of our recruits that can shoot.
I hope Utah can get one more win this year wether its in regular season or the conference tournament.
Go Utes!

What do you care, something you're Cougars will never know. After next season, something you can never claim your team was a part of.
I took this from a post after the Gonzaga/BYU game knocking Gonzaga: "Only political correctness media makes this team #1. They couldn't even beta Illinois. How do you think they would do against Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota. They play St Mary's , Pepperdine, BYU, Portland, Santa Clara, San Francisco, and San Diego . Now thats a Pathetic line up."
Yeah, your team TOM is laughed at by other than Ute fans. He's obviously a B1G fan and he's right. WCC is weak, most play in what looks like High School gym's.
But I'm sure you'd rather see your team playing San Diego than Stanford? Wait, didn't your team lose to... funny. Just like you're football team, your basketball Cougars can't beat anybody either. When your Cougars join a one of the big-boy conferences and wins, then have something to say. So we should see you in about... never.
Like the writer said, this is exactly what a struggling Stanford needed, to play Utah. Playing the cellar dweller cures many ills. Good luck on a 4 win season. You must be so proud.
not so Jolly Roger
Some pretty bold talk from a swabbie who's speakin' for a team that's in the bilge of their conference ship! Hoist yer PAC 10.2 banners 'round the capital for yer landlubbin' basketball team and see the crowds come to the HC.
3 conference wins and a quest for 'two in a row'. LOL
The HC is a ghost town compared to the BYU 'high school' venues you poke fun about. I wonder how many Ute fans waste their time turning on the TV set?
On the other hand when you have a real national network and dedicated fans coast to coast that enjoy watching their team, the venues where they play make no difference at all.
I can see the angst in your post over 'two in a row' disappointing seasons in both football/basketball in your glorious conference.
Since when does being < .500 in conference football and being nearly dead last in big boy basketball instill such pride?
I'll share with you what someone said so eloquently when BYU came close playing #2 Gonzaga last week...
"You're still losers."
Utah and Colorado added nothing but embarrassment to the PAC10. Deal with it.
The Utes' chances at a .400 season are starting to slip away.
At this point, they must win one more game to finish the regular season at .400 and two more games to finish above .400 for the year.
Think they can pull it off?
I guess the Capri Sun and orange slices will just have to stay in the cooler.

"Only political correctness media makes this team #1. They couldn't even beta[sic] Illinois. How do you think they would do against Michigan State, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota."
Gonzaga at Illinois 74-85
Ohio St at Illinois 55-74
Indiana at Illinois 72-74
Probably at least as well as Ohio State and Indiana.
It doesn't matter how much jealous fans from "power" conferences whine, Gonzaga will be ranked #1 in at least one poll this week, and, unless they stumble in the WCC tournament, the Bulldogs will be a #1 seed.
If you'd paid any attention whatsoever to the season, instead of just spouting off your "power" conference arrogance, you'd know that Gonzaga swept four of the top six teams in the Big 12:
#22 Oklahoma 72-47
#18 Kansas St 68-52
#26 Okla St 69-68
#60 Baylor 94-87
The Zags are 2-0 against RPI Top 25, 5-2 versus RPI Top 50, and 11-2 versus RPI Top 100.
There isn't a single team in the PAC 10.2 that even comes close to matching Gonzaga's record.
Next time, try doing a little research before spouting off.
But Chris,
Coach Larry has taken you exactly where you belogn alreacy. Enjoy the basement.
Jolley, better to play in high school gyms that to play like a HS team.

Please explain the relationship between arena size and quality of basketball team, as it relates to the following arenas:
Cameron Indoor Arena
Huntsman Center
Dee Events Center
Marriott Center
the Spectrum
McCarthey Center

As far as "weak" conferences, which conference has the #1 team in the country (both polls) and which conference doesn't have a single team ranked in the Top 15.

Stop confusing the kids on the hill by using facts instead of hyperbole.
So it's possible to play in the WCC and still be the #1 team in the country?

MWC probably looking at a #3 seed.
PAC 10.2 will be lucky to get a #4 seed.
Congratulations to fellow WCC member Gonzaga being voted the #1 team in the country!

A well-deserved honor for the Zags!
