The Kings are the worst run team in the NBA and their coach is totally clueless about how to run an effective offense. Watching the Kings is like watching a pickup game at the local gym. Just roll the ball out and let everybody go one on one.

You couldn't find a worse situation for a spot up shooter like Jimmer.

Jimmer needs to find a team that can utilize his deep 3-ball ability to stretch defenses.

The Kings' one-on-one style offense simply isn't a good fit.

And why is it that Jimmer gets no playing time? It must be some kind of worldwide consipracy meant to keep Jimmer and the BYU faithful down right?

I'd take him right now over Earl Watson and Jamal Tinsley. If the Jazz had him they would be a much improved team. The guy can score. In fact, just one bucket from a point guard and the Jazz would have beaten the Celtics last night..

"And why is it that Jimmer gets no playing time?"

Incompetent coaches make foolish decisions all the time.

The reason the Kings have one of the worst teams in the NBA starts with their head coach.

Marcus Thornton, SG, averages 24 mpg, 10.3 FGA, .403 FG%, 5.0 3PA, .356 3P%
Jimmer Fredette, PG, averages 14 mpg, 5.9 FGA, .411 FG%, 2.3 3PA, .426 3P%

Jimmer is by far the highest percentage 3-point shooter on the team, yet the Kings have four players putting up more 3-pointers per game than Jimmer.

Jimmer is fourth on the team in points per shot, but 12th on the team in average minutes played.

The Kings drafted Jimmer to be a scorer, then don't play him enough to develop any kind of rhythm, yet he's still shooting better than most of his teammates, especially those that rely mostly on outside shooting.

It's not Jimmer's play that's keeping him from being more productive; it's a coach that's too incompetent to put Jimmer in the game and run an offense that frees Jimmer for open shots.

@Fatman86;
No one is saying that some of Fredette's shortcomings are some of the reason he is not playing. But with that said his strengths are being ignored by a selfish team and a coach who wouldn't give playing time to Jeremy Lin either. Sometimes getting put in a better position to succeed works. But if your hatred of all things BYU blinds you then that is your loss.

Yeah it's the same conspiracy that sent Alex Smith to the Chiefs.

Look around the NBA........there are a few bonehead coaches...one of the reasons I have little time to watch NBA hoops. FREE JIMMER!!!!

@skywalker,

Most people agree assists and turnovers are a significant stat for point guards.

Please enlighten us on his assist to turnover ratio compared to the other point guards on the team.

I can't wait.

This will be good.

Anyone who doesn't realize that finding the right team, right coach and right offense isn't important doesn't know sports.

Even Lebron couldn't win a championship with te Cavaliers. Michael Jordan's Bulls weren't very impressive until Phil Jackson arrived.

Jimmer is not the next Lebron or Michael, but he would have more impact on a different team with a different coach with a different offense.

On the right team, I think he could have an impact similar to Steve Kerr, who didn't play much defense either.

First point: He was drafted for his scoring ability. Period. Talk about his Assist-to-turonver ratio aren't relevant, because that's not what the Kings value.

Second point: The Kings are the most selfish team in the league. The Kings player that averages the most APG, Isaiah Thomas, is 51st in the NBA in APG. The starting PG for the Kings averages less assists per game than such great facilitators as Nicolas Batum for Portland and Joakim Noah for Chicago. So, again, talking about assist to turnover ratio when talking about the Kings is a moot point. For you to have an assist, the other guy has to actually score. On the Kings, that just doesn't happen. For anyone.

@BlacksburgCoug,

Arguing that talking to assist to turnover tatio is a "moot point" since the "other guy has to actually score" is a terrible argument.

Everyone on the Kings is playing with the same teammates as the other Kings players.

Jimmer has the same teammates as Brooks does. Jimmer has the same teammates as Thomas does. They're trying to "assist" the same other guards, forwards, and centers.

So yes, comparing Jimmer's assist to turnover ratio against the other point guards on Sacramentos team is a very valid point in determining if he should be playing or riding the bench.

Fun facts:

Of the 3 point guards in disucssion(other than Tyreke) of who should get minutes there is:

1) Isaiah Thomas
2) Aaron Brooks
3) Jimmer

Let's list who has the best assist to turnover ratio

1). Isaiah Thomas 2.1 assist to turnover ratio
2) Aaron Brooks 1.6 assist to turnover ratio
3) Jimmer 1.4 assist to tornover ratio.

Of 4 point guards on the team - Jimmer is last in assist to turnover ratio

Now lets look at shooting percenetage, since you all claim he was drafted for his scoring

1 Aaron brooks 46 percent
2. Isaiah Thomas 44 percent
3. Jimmer 41 percent

Last.

Again.

LOL!

The Sacramento Queens are a very poorly run organization.

My favorite NBA team is the Houston Rockets and they've nailed it to Sacremento on trade after trade. The Kings foolishly ship a good player not used to his maximum potential and that player does well in Houston. They then take a decent player or package of players Houston was winning with and turn them into scrubs. Where you land is a huge contributor to chances at success.

By the way, the Jazz aren't going to make the playoffs this year. The Rockets and Lakers will both pass them and Houston will probably take either Jefferson or Millsap this Summer...

@Chris B.

The problem with quoting those stats is that its hard to get stats when you don't play. Plus, stats don't tell the whole story.

As someone else pointed out, it's not as cut and dry as simple saying, if he were better, he'd play more. As if you can just take any NBA player, drop them on any team, and expect them to have the same success, or lack thereof. It's all about systems, coaches, rythym, etc.

Just look at Chauncy Billups. Drafted by Boston, was decent, but not great. Bounced around to five teams before landing with Detroit. Then, he started tearing it up. Why? Did he suck before? No. It wasn't a good fit before. I'm sure he improved, but he now had better players around him, a great coach, etc. Jimmer will probably never be a superstar in this league. But he has talent, can shoot, can score. There is a place where he can contribute. The dumpster fire known as the Sacramento Kings isn't it.

@Blacksburg,

So you agree you had a terrible arument by saying aruging assists to turnover is a "moot point"?

Mildred in Fillmore

Jimmer has been mis-treated by the Kings and needs to be traded. If he played on a team that ran the offense around him and gave him freedom to shoot everytime he wanted, he would excel - just like in college.
