Only the narrow minded or psychologist could think this way at they try to convince the dying its a lie and not to worry about it.
The only reason some people involve themselves in these kind of mindless projects is that it doesn't take any concentration or thought to do what they call art projects. Its the only entertainment that doesn't require focus and still think about their now shortened future. This mode of thought is the last thing I would concern myself with, to sit and quietly die, out of mind and out of sight doing a paint by numbers portrait.
Why shouldn't people think and ponder and get depressed? Psychologist try to stop depression with drugs, and mindless tasks only worsen their depression.
I think most patients would rather be out and on their walkabout than funding fraud in health care and doctors/investors dream homes.
I would think it is safe to assume that you have never actually engaged seriously in the act of making art or you would know that it is anything but a mindless distraction from reality. What I do not understand is your blatant hostility towards something others find very comforting.
