Hilarious that the 49ers would block him from joining Arizona. This coming from a team that found no value in him after his concussion. Are they worried that he could beat them or something? Too funny.
KC might just be a good fit. Charles is a great RB and that helps. Their D is good enough to hold teams enough to allow the offense to stay close. Alex won't lead them to the playoffs next year, but a 6-7 win season is a dramatic increase and it's better than what they've had. Some teams need a "game manager". Like I said after the super bowl loss, a game manager could have won that game. Oh well.
"Andy has always been able to get the most out of guys that don't have extreme talent."
So I guess we know what Dilfer thinks of smith's talent. That said this might be the one place smith can have a decent run. Reid would be the only guy other than harbaugh that could make smith a servicable qb. smith should be doing everything in his power to try and make this happen.
Good job Alex.
Go get that Super Bowl you deserve!
"Could former Utah Ute quarterback Alex Smith be the next Joe Montana?"
Um, you're kidding, right?
Joe was a 4-time Super Bowl winner and 3-time Super Bowl MVP being replaced by a future Super Bowl MVP.
Alex is a lifetime 1 playoff game winner being replaced by QB who led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl since Steve Young.
If Alex hopes to emulate Joe's stint at Kansas City, he can look forward to two seasons of modest success (by Joe Montana's standards) before retiring.
Maybe Dilfer should have played for Andy Reid, considering HIS lack of "extreme talent."
Alex probably is as deserving as anyone to get to the Super Bowl, but I'm quite sure it isn't going to happen in KC. Best of luck to him though.
FatMan86:
Dan Marino was as deserving as anyone to get to get a Super Bowl ring, but it just didn't happen.

"'Could former Utah Ute quarterback Alex Smith be the next Joe Montana?'

I'm pretty sure the writer meant that tongue-in-cheek. No one is accusing Alex Smith of actually being great. Least of all San Francisco apparently. With that said I think a move to KC would make sense. They have 5 pro bowlers and are a few pieces away from being a playoff team. Smith isn't bad by any means, but he certainly isn't good enough to make up for deficiencies of defense like a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.
kapernick led the 49ers to their first Super Bowl LOSS in franchise history.
In pro-sports just because you may think a person deserves something doesn't mean you get it, see Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, David Duval(golfer), Marino, LaDanian Tomlinson, on an on. I don't think Alex's professional football play to this point is anywhere near the play of the aforementioned "Stars". Stars who out of anyone did deserve a title.
I hope that Alex Smith can win and earn a deserved Superbowl. I just don't see it happening in KC.
John Beck was always better and prooved it many times.
Ernest, wrong again.
Alex Smith was playing very well this year and got shafted. I'm glad to see him get another chance after how he took the switch though he's now going to wind up in a situation similar to what Beck had in Miami. No matter how good he is I'm not sure this is going to work...
Don't know why KC would waste their time with Alex. With the NFL going more towards dual option quarterbacks, KC and Andy Reid should give Riley Nelson a shot.
I love all they BYU/Alex Smith naysayers. Hey, where did Max Hall go? Oh....that's right.
Ernest, you are joking right? John Who? That is what you hear anywhere outside of the BYU community. Why because he did nothing. He threw one great pass in a rivalry game. Thats about it. If you are going to talk about great QB's from BYU at least mention someone non-BYU fans have heard of.
Alex Smith is was an outstanding college QB and a good NFL QB. He has thrived under Harbaugh, growing up in Norcal and being a Niners fan I was thrilled to see him finally start to live up to his potential. I hope he does great in KC.
And John Beck, what is he doing? Thats right sitting on the couch watching. BYU has a great history of fantastic QB's (Nielsen, Wilson, McMahon, Detmer, Federick) and you bring up John Beck? Great quarterback... thats a joke.
Typical, more joy from of bashing Utes than cheering for their own team.
Be a good BYU fan or better yet just be a good fan. We have enough negativity without your nonsense.
@BYUkidUtahGrad
Uh....ernie is a utah "fan", his stick is to post on BYU articles pretending to be a clueless BYU fan, he's a bit of a joke on these boards. Congratulations on feeding his ego though.
