    Roger Jolly

"Utah is playing tough teams in the PAC, Utah played ranked #9 Arizona last night. Tough game but they lost."

Um, congratulations on losing another game?

"Utah and TCU are learning how tough it is too play in a 'Big Boy' conference."

It's better to be 3rd in the WCC, or 4th in the WAC, or 2nd in the Big Sky, than to be 11th place in the PAC. For proof, look no further than the current RPI and Sagarin rankings:

    #68/#62 BYU(19-8)
    #114/#109 Utah State(18-6)
    #117/#114 Weber State(19-5)
    #166/#134 Utah(11-14)

Arizona dropped from #9 to #12 after their "big win" over the Utes.

#3 Gonzaga(25-2) could be #1 when they visit BYU next week. More proof that conference isn't everything when it comes to having an outstanding team. BYU's schedule is plenty strong enough that the Cougars would be a Top 10 team if they were 25-2 like the Zags.

For all of your "big boy" conference chest beating, you're 25 games into the season and the Utes have still only beaten NINE Div-1 opponents. Pathetic!

    @ Down under

Being a distant third place team in the WCC does not indicate the Cougars could compete in the PAC-12. BYU is ranked behind 6 PAC-12 teams and has been soundly beat by every top 100 team they played, save St. Mary's. BYU would be middle of the road at best in the PAC.

    Mr. Perspective,
Just so you know I live in full view of the mighty PAC 10.2 and they are not that great. I regularly attend their games and have season tickets, they are nothing special. They are just average and BYU would be a top tier team in their league.

Can't say what the final score will be but BYU will beat USU. I don't see it close but looking at the two teams BYU is better. But that's not a suprise. BYU is usually better than USU in every aspect in every sport.

    MyPerspective

BYU plays in front of the pullout bleaches 6 games per season, versus playing 17 home games in a 20,000+ seat arena with an average attendance of around 16,000.

Compare to Utah, which, except for their game at BYU, hasn't played in front of 16,000 fans all season.

Of course, to fans who are simply grasping at straws for anything that will help them feel good about themselves, playing in front of 8,000 empty red chairs must seem superior to playing in front of a few empty bleacher seats.

How embarrassing it must have been for the PAC 10.2 to see the hundreds of empty chairs in the lower bowl at the Huntsman for a nationally televised game involving their best team.

"Winning the crown of "best college team in the state" is not much of an achievement..."

Compared to being dubbed with the dubious distinction of being the "worst college team in the state," winning the crown of best college team in the state is a monumental achievement.

    #68 BYU
    #114 Utah State
    #117 Weber State
    #166 Utah

Nice comment about the fold out bleachers. Too bad we fill those poor bleachers and you definitely can't say that ;)

"Utah and TCU are learning how tough it is too play in a 'Big Boy' conference."

We're happy for U that you're learning to be great LOSERS!

If losing to PAC 10.2 teams helps you sleep better a night than U did when the Utes were a MWC loser, knock yourself out.

I'll bet you were really excited about how much tougher those losses to Sac St and CS Northridge made the Utes?

I find it humorous Mr. Jolly that you want to criticize the Cougs when the U has lost to Sac States and Cal Northridge on their home floor... What conference are they in? The Big Sky? In fact, your U men lost to the very Cougs you criticize not just once this year but they have lost 11 of 12 games over the past 7 years... The one game they did win was in OT on your team's home floor.

And the Arizona Wild Cats, the cream of the PAC 10.2 Conference has not done a whole lot better against the Cougs than the U... They have played twice over the past 4 years and lost by a combined total of 52 points? Losing by 30 points on their home floor and 20 points on a neutral floor... And the last beating happened in a year that these Cats made it to the elite 8 (2010-2011).

I know that it has been tough to be a U B-Ball fan these past 10 years... there aren't many of them anymore, you can see the few that still are if you go to any of their games.

CougFaninTX" "I think everyone would agree that BYU and USU are the two best teams this year. But who is 3rd, 4th, and 5th?" Again, who cares? There is no one looking at USU and byu and saying, "wow, those are the two best programs in the whole state of Utah." Get over it.

Down under: When BYU makes it to the NCAA tournament maybe then BYU will be fortunate enough to play one of the teams representing the Pac-12. Until that day comes byu fans will simply have to content themselves their two team league that uses gymnasiums with fold out bleachers. Until that day comes, byu fans will only be able to look through the glass window (that is your vantage point of the Pac-12) and wonder, what if?...

    By Jolley,
Utah is playing tough teams in the mighty PAC 10.2?? Really?? Are you refering to Oregon State (13-13) losing by 18 or would it be the mighty Stanford (15-11) losing by 31, or maybe it would be Washington State (11-15) losing by 10. Oh wait, it must be USC (12-14) losing by 17. I think I see your logic now.

Nice try but you are the who looks silly. BYU is having their worst year in a long time and still will be over 20 wins. Sorry for the dose of reality amixed in with a whole lot of facts.

U are right, but it's better than being in the discussion for worst team in the state. I think everyone would agree that BYU and USU are the two best teams this year. But who is 3rd, 4th, and 5th?

    Could Utah beat Weber State?
Could Utah beat Utah Valley Univesity?

Both BYU and USU are having down years with important starters being out for the season with injuries. In reality, this game should be just the first round of the NIT.

CougFaninTX: Just think of the excuses Cougar Nation will have when they are blown out by St Mary's. When all those 'ifs' you listed above come to fruition, maybe byu will have the privilege of playing Arizona in the NCAA dance. Then we can all see exactly what you are crowing about. Won't that be fun?

btw, Winning the crown of "best college team in the state" is not much of an achievement Not this year anyway.

    Three important games coming up.

One to determine the best college team in the state.

And two games that are must wins if BYU has any chance of dancing. I still believe if BYU wins against St Mary's and the Zags in regular season and gets to the WCC Championship game, they will be dancing. However, it will take three outstanding games to get to that point.

I really wish the USU game could've happened in December. I'm not really excited about playing an in-state rival and then turning around two days later to play a must win game against St Mary's on the road.

Aggies are down three starters. That and the home court advantage make the Cougars a big favorite tomorrow night. Sad but true. Although USU has been playing with heart.

I guess it's better to pound your chest against teams like Portland and San Diego but get wiped out by Gonzaga. You cannot tell me honestly that BYU wouldn't like to be playing U of A in conference? You'd sound silly."

Who have the PAC schools beaten in non-conference play? Arizona is not all that great.

Actually, BYU has wiped the floor with Arizona the last couple of times they've played them. You sound silly.

Roger - Can you remind me how BYU did against U of A the last two times they played them? And to think BYU would not be doing better than U and TCU in either the PAC or Big12 is crazy. I'm not claiming we'd be on top, but I know we wouldn't be on bottom. This is a down year for BYU, but they are still much better than U or TCU.

Utah and TCU are learning how tough it is too play in a 'Big Boy' conference. Just waiting for Boise State and BYU to join the club. Enjoy your INDEPENDENCE and remember... you're no Notre Dame. See you in the MWC soon...
