The homeowners were put at great risk when Shepherd pull a knife on them and tried to kill them. This shows why people need to have a gun in their home. A man has a right and a responsibility to protect his family.
Always be prepared to defend your home, and lives of loved ones with a gun. It's our constitutional right to learn gun safety, laws and gun use. This is an example why its so important to protect ourselves and use our individual liberties. Don't wait for 2nd aid to be rescued by your local police, but use your 2nd amendment resources and defend yourself with 1st aid in the moment of the attack.
Shepard should feel lucky that he was not shot in a "justified shooting" by someone with a gun. This could have been a lot worse.
