Losing in the road to a PAC 12 conference of champion and top 25 team in close
game is respectableLosing at home to a nobody from a nobody
conference? EmbarrassingThink the big 12 is impressed?
Hey, Cougs players, let me help out a bit. No need to be "stunned." Um,
this may be hard, but .... you are not nearly as "good" and solid as you
think you were. I'm beyone frustrated with each game. Seems like finding
more ways how to lose each game.
BYU's lack of discipline on offense and defense hurt them again. They play
a lot of zone, and if they give up penetration like tonight, they'll have a
hard time winning. Haws needs to get used to teams being physical with him.
When you're as good as he is, they're going to play you tight. Every
great player learns how to move without the ball when facing pressure, and he
will. He gets rattled a bit and gets off of his game.
This team just has no heart and no leadership. They can not stick to a plan and
Rose has no answers and no bench. NIT is all they can hope for and maybe one
win in that tourny,
WOW. I am the biggest BYU fan out there but the Cougars show no heart and fight
anymore. They are soft on interior defense and can't remember how to play
man-to-man on the outside. Can't blame this one on the refs. I think they
are done for the year. Oh well, at least they are not the Utes.
Wow, what an ugly night for Utah's 2 "premier" programs. Utes and
Cougs both stinkin it up.
I'm not sure anyone within one of the "real conferences" even knew
there was such thing as San Francisco Community College. You learn
something new every day.
After having watched byu basketball and football go something like 2-20 against
the only noteworthy opponents the past two years, you can practically hear the
sigh of relief from Big 12 nation everywhere for having NOT invited byu.The big 12 made the right call.By not calling.
Smells an awful lot like karma in here.
I was at the game and what made me sick was the coughs just going straight down
the court and hoping for a foul. No passes no moving the ball around. Looked
like church ball at its worst!!
Lights out, indeed! Cougars fans came to see the team bounce back at home and
got that at the end of the half, so some even headed home on a snowy Saturday
night, only to find out that the win they left was taken away by an incredible
3-point barrage exhibition. USF did what I always thought an underdog should do
when down 15 at the others guys gym, bring in your rainbow makers and let them
fly, what do you got to lose? It sure worked out with the Cougars going cold
and losing any type of transition game. And don't blame the refs when a
hot shooting team is executing, and our team is floundering without cohesion,
consistency, and leadership. Doolin couldn't help but remind me of the
film, One On One, with Robby Benson back in the 70s. When the Cougars thought
it was in the bag, they shut-down mentally and lost any edge. At least they
were in a great place to watch a team have the best game of their season.
Lesson learned, but it looks like more is yet to be taught.
And the nauseating pain goes on! We lost a chance to the NCAA last week and now
we may not even get an invite to the NIT. Oh how I wish things were different!
But, there's always next year. I know we the fans are tired of hearing
that but it seems to be our lot and the cause of all the hate and continuous
disrespect from the haters and those who lives to mock us on these boards.I still hope for a prayer and a miracle though.Go Cougars!
Stunned Cougars??Sorry guys, this is a pathetic team. No talent or
NIT is the best place for BYU to be this year, although if they keep this up,
they may lose the ability to have some of these games at home (or even make it
to the NIT). Average season is looking a little more like a bad season now.
Very disappointing to see the Cougs play the way they did in the 2nd half.
On the bright side the sandwich I bought by Portal F was really good. Glad I ate
it before the game started.
The chances of Any team from Utah in the NCAA are looking bleak. The only team
playing with heart is the maligned Utes. There is always next year.
It's good to see them consistantly playing up to theie abilities. Maybe ,
if they are very careful who they choose, they can schedule some high school or
jc teams, in hopes of boosting their record next year.
Smells like karma in here.
It was the refs fault...again. lol.
And starting at guard, wait until next year Carlino.
It's tough to beat a team that's shooting 90% from 3-point land. BYU
has proven themselves to be a decent team this year, but losses like this show
that they're not an NCAA tournament caliber team. Hopefully, a win or two
in the NIT will give them some tourney experience and a positive to build on
going into next season when the Cougars will be bolstered by new and returning
talent.------On the bright side:Just two
days after a close, well-played win in five sets over No. 15 UC Santa Barbara,
the #1-ranked BYU Men's Volleyball dispatched the #6 Bruins of UCLA in
straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-23) Saturday night to extend their current
winning streak to three games.
My observation about this team is that they are under-talented. Team speed is a
problem, too slow at the point, where Carlino is a poor man's jimmer
wannabe, the forwards don't have the skill to man-up and play defense and
control the boards. The zone defense is a point awarding sieve, and they
don't have the skill to play man-to-man. Offensively, they cannot shoot the
3 with any sustained accuracy, and the two scorers on the team are impatient and
under duress don't let the game come to them and therefore throw up
ill-conceived shots. Defensively, they don't try, most of the time they
are content to attempt to outscore the other team through their transition
effort. To be a good offensive player is a gift, whereas, to be a good
defensive player requires effort, work and energy. Too little of which is seen
in this edition of Cougar basketball. Very depressing.
I think Cougar fans need to settle down a bit. Last night's game changed
nothing in my opinion. An at large bid was highly unlikely, especially with how
tough the MWC is this year, so basically they have to win the tournament to get
in, just like Weber State. BYU will probably have to beat both St. Mary's
and Gonzaga to get in and Weber State will more than likely have to beat Montana
on the road...which is about 50/50 as they only lost by two this year. BYU
definitely has a tall order, but it could happen. It looks like the
state of Utah's streak of having a team in the NCAA Tourney is in real
jeopardy. You never know though, anything can happen in conference
tournaments.@Whoa Nellie: Tell me more about that sandwich...too
funny. Being a Chicago Cubs fan has taught me to not take losses to seriously.
I got a good laugh out of your comment.
Well, I packed my family into the car, traveled down to BYU for the day, took
the kids to the BYU Bookstore, bought them a few souvenirs, showed them around
campus (since they had never been there), and then ate some good eats at a local
restaurant. We were going to top the night off by watching the men's
b-ball team dispatch the Dons. Who would have thought that we were at the wrong
game? After that pathetic showing in the MC, I told my wife we should have gone
to the men's volleyball game instead. If the team keeps playing
like this (b-ball or football), I don't see many other trips to Provo in
the near future. Maybe I can get my kids interested in volleyball instead.
Every team goes through a rebuilding period every few years. The Florida Gators
won two NCAA titles, then played in the NIT the next two years. Now they're
back on top of the SEC looking like an NCAA title contender again. It
happens. The only thing surprising for BYU is that this happened
during Davies' senior season.I'm confident that Rose with
added talent will have the Cougars back in the Big Dance next year. With better
scoring balance, Carlino can become more of a distributor and not have to worry
about scoring so much.
This team has taken on the petulant attitude that has been instilled in the
program by Dave Rose.Stop complaining about officiating, exhibit some mental
toughness and class and don't expect every call to go your way.
@Chris BDon't kid yourself. Nothing about Ute basketball is
Nothing like making fun of Utah for losing to bad teams and then tripping over
ourselves and face planting. I guess we had this coming.Go Cougars!
GO_COUGARS!Nothing like a Utah troll pretending to be a BYU fan, so
he can whine about BYU fans making fun of his own team.
Gosh another game ruined by horrible refs who hate us.
Comments:re: BYU vs San Francisco - 33 and counting (about a third
from Utah fans)re: Utah at Oregon - 4Even Utah fans are
more interested in BYU basketball than in Utah basketball.Sad, for
Utah, but true.
Crissy,How about losing at home by 20 to a PAC 10.2 nobody? Did you
forget that lose already??
I don't think we are giving San Fran its due. They could not miss from the
3 or in the 2nd half, and BYU went for prayer layups and some off balance shots.
I went through all the scores from Saturday and I didn't see anyone else
score 60 in a half. They would have beaten nearly anyone in the country with
that kind of shooting. Got to give them credit...they were just on fire and
could not be stopped. However, I don't know why they didn't defend
the 3 better when they were so hot. They were left open all the time. Really
poor zone from the 3.
Cris BEveryone that knows basketball, regardless if they are in a
"big" or mid-major conference, knows the Dons. I think by insulting
them, you are either showing your youth or your incredible ignorance. The Dons
won 2 national championships with Bill Russell. Bill Russell went on to win 11
NBA championships (some as a player coach), an Olympic Gold medal and is one of
the best centers to have ever played the game. USF has a tremendous legacy and
everyone that knows anything about basketball knows the Dons. People also know
the WCC due to the success of Gonzaga and St. Mary's.That said,
BYU is not playing good basketball and deserves some criticism. Just don't
be so incredibly stupid about the criticism you give.
