There is more to this manhunt than the police and news media are saying, and I don't think this officer is a threat to anyone but the police department and not for retribution or vengeance for being fired from his job 6 years ago.
Its possible the news media has been contacted but as usual news media is complying with gag orders to hide the facts and motives of this mans actions. He is acting rationale and in defensive acts for reasons other than losing his job. No one festers for 6 years about any job, and I don't think his acts were related to it.
So until all the facts and truths get said, its all a big game of cat and mouse politics and innuendos to justify persecution and lies before apprehensions and his inquisition.
Police and news media are not reliable and honest sources of information so lets reserve the guess work until after his cause and reason is exposed. Until the jury is in we can't trust anything reported.
