When I scan systems on our network with a virus scanner, I get very few
detections, but scanning systems with a Malware detector - holy cow. I end up
having to remove Malware, reimage computers, and spend vast amounts of time
fixing Malware infections coming from ads. Most disguise themselves as
legitimate security detections and to the average user look like a Microsoft
warning. Very sneaky and disruptive. Oh, don't think your Mac
is immune. There's nothing like a Mac with malware mimicking a Microsoft
security warning! Just as nasty and just as difficult to remove.
The last few time I got maleware, it came from an ad. Sorry to disappoint those
looking to make money off ads, but you MUST have an ad-blocker set in your
browser today to filter out most of these ads that might contain maleware. Also,
a good virus scanner is a must.
