Slower traffic.. Choose The Right(lane)!
As someone who lives in St. George and travels to Salt Lake once or twice a month, the higher speeds are greatly appreciated. Thank you House, and I hope the Senate will follow.
A simple calculation is in order. It's about 200 miles from Nephi to St. George. If one travels that 200 miles at 80 mph, it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. If one travels that 200 miles at 75 mph, it takes 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Apparently some legislators and some of those making comments here think there will be a significant time savings. Ten minutes is not a significant time savings. Keep the speed limit at 75 and leave 10 minutes earlier.
By the way, the time savings is even less in those other proposed shorter stretches of road being proposed for the 80 mph speed limit. These changes are total nonsense, we should just enforce the existing speed limits.
Heck, people here in California drive 80 MPH(or faster)no matter what the posted speed limit is.
