In answer to the question in the headline. Maybe, but probably not.
Y's little brother"How soon you forget that the PAC 10.2
wasn't even good enough to get their regular season conference champion
into the tournament last year and only one-sixth of the PAC 10.2 deserved to go
dancing."____How soon YOU forget what an anomaly last year
was for both the PAC-12 AND the WCC. Pretty much a worst and best in 30 year
performance for both conferences. I don't think I'd bank on that being
the case again for a long long time.
Duckhunter"Who is it you think I was mocking and emulating with
that post? Give you one guess."So it's a vicious circle
then, because Utah fans are only using 8 out of 11 in football for one reason,
fans like yourself that used that repeatedly when McBride first brought Utah
back to relevance. So it looks like a case of chicken and the egg. Or
should I say Duck and then the egg. LOL!
@ RockwellNo problem with a differing opinion. Seems I hit a nerve
with you as well. I love the "little friend" reference. I'm
certainly not your friend. Never ignored Utah's loses; as a matter of fact
I stated that they need more wins.Trolling the Utah threads again trying to pick
a fight? Nice! Do you ever actually comment on BYU articles?
Spokane UteTalk about paranoid; you just can't handle anyone
ever disagreeing with you without accusing them of having multiple personalities
and getting all "riled up", can you?Do you really believe
that BYU fans are envious and jealous of the rundown Utes who are
"working" on their 5th straight losing season? It's
laughable that our little friends on the hill are forced to talk smack about
conferences and gym sizes because they have absolutely NOTHING to talk smack
about when it comes to comparing teams. After all of your hyperbole
about Top 50 and Top 100 RPI wins, it's hilarious that you completely
ignored Utah's FIVE losses to 100+ RPI teams, three of them at home: to #108 USCto #279 Sac Stat #185 SMUto #200 CS
Northridgeat #165 WSUIt's not BYU's fault that the
Utes have had such a pathetic basketball program for most of the last decade.
The Utes are lucky they're not in the WAC or Big Sky. It's
embarrassing enough finishing at the bottom of the PAC every year.
sports4life1Little sister let me do the breakdown for U, since you
obviously have a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction.Arizona
struggled at home to get past #160 UtahOregon struggled at home to beat
#234 No. ArizonaUCLA lost at home to #205 Cal PolyASU lost at home
to #182 DePaulCalifornia struggled at home to beat #161 OSUStanford
lost at #108 USC and struggled at home to beat #161 OSUColorado lost at
#160 UtahWashington lost at home to #160 Utah, to #175 Albany, and at #161
OSUThere's the top 2/3's of the PAC 10.2; every single one
of them with a loss or a close home win against a 100+ RPI team. All
six of BYU's losses have come to RPI 60 or higher teams.Of the
32 Division 1 basketball conferences, the WCC is in the top one-third, only four
places below the PAC 10.2#1 B1G#2 MWC#3 Big East#4
ACC#5 Big 12#6 PAC 10.2#7 A-10#8 SEC#9 MVC#10 WCC#11 C-USA#13 WAC#29 Big Sky
PAC Man, Y's Little brother, or how ever many screen names you use,I never said Utah was better than BYU, now did I? I did state they lost
by 3 to them, and that's pretty dang accurate. I also noted that Utah has
some very good wins, just not enough of them. It sure seems to have you riled
up. It's not my fault that BYU is 0-4 against RPI to 50 teams. I also
stated that Gonzaga carries the conference, which is 100% accurate. Us Utah fans
do find it amussing how you flock to our threads though. Envy and jealousy is a
horrible thing. Don't worry, maybe the WAC or Big Sky will invite you to
join soon. Thanks in advance for your continued support.
Little Brother let me do the breakdown for you since you BYU fans are excellent
with statistics. You say washington, state, Utah, and oregon state
would be bottom teems in the WCC. Yet when you look at the match ups with
the WCC conference you can clearly see that your powerhouse Gonzaga team only
beat a poor PAC 12 Washington State team by 2 points. While your BYU Cougs
narrowly escaped a 11th place utah team at your place. BYU has no place to
argue with the PAC 12. The WCC is a bad basketball conference. Yes they have 1
good team but thats really it. The WCC = WORST COLLEGE
CONFERENCETalking about the WCC over the PAC 12 conference is really
quite the pathetic argument. You find facts that make it sound decent when
truthfully there is so many more facts that could make it sound pathetic.
motorbikeThere's no question that the PAC 10.2 is deeper top to
bottom than the WCC. There's also no question that Gonzaga,
BYU, Saint Mary's and Santa Clara are all good enough to compete with the
upper 2/3s of the PAC 10.2, while Utah, Oregon State, and Washington
State would blend nicely with the bottom half of the WCC.The WCC
entered a new era when BYU joined the conference last year. Three WCC teams
played in the Big Dance in 2012 - that's one-third of the conference.
Don't be so sure that the WCC won't have two or three teams in the
NCAA this year. How soon you forget that the PAC 10.2 wasn't
even good enough to get their regular season conference champion into the
tournament last year and only one-sixth of the PAC 10.2 deserved to go dancing.
@motorbikeWho is it you think I was mocking and emulating with that
post? Give you one guess.LOL!
motorbikeYou're ignoring the fact that not only has BYU
dominated Utah head-to-head in basketball during the Dave Rose era, BYU has also
dominated U overall in record, conference championships, national rankings, NCAA
berths, and NCAA wins.Quite a different story from Utah's
football domination in head-to-head versus BYU's domination in overall
record, conference championships, 10+ win seasons, bowl appearances, and Top 25
finishes during the Bronco/Kyle era.Too bad we can't compare
coaching eras in basketball like we can in football, but the Utes have been such
a train wreck in basketball since Majerus left, that no coach has lasted long
enough at Utah to mount even a modest challenge to Rose.
PAC manYou're going off the lesser used RPI rankings.
Here's the full run down comparison between Pac 12 and WCC:3
Arizona12 Gonzaga25 Colorado26 Oregon42 BYU &
UCLA58 ASU & St Mary's65 Stanford67 California68 Washington86 Santa Clara107 USC146 San Francisco158
San Diego159 Utah 162 Oregon State165 Washington State197 pepperdine215 Portland228 Loyola MarymountPretty
sad that a conference of 9 teams has 5 ranked 146 or worse. That makes 10 of
BYU's wins seem awfully meaningless doesn't it? Okay, before
someone else says it I will ... make it 11 wins since Utah is down there to ...
though Utah will have a few chances to change that if they pull off a couple
more quality wins like they did last Saturday.Regardless, you can see why
the WCC only deserves 1 team in the big dance ... this year and MOST years.
Duckhunter"Actually BYU is 11 wins in the last 12 games better
than utah."Oh, so this suddenly works for Ducky now that
we're talking about basketball? Don't worry, I'll be sure to
remind you of this for a LONG LONG TIME. LOL!
Spokane UteA couple more interesting stats:Sacramento
State is #281 per RPI rankings. That makes Utah's loss the WORST loss by
any team in the state. Utah also lost to #199 CSU Northridge, which might be the
second WORST loss by any team in the state.Something Utah fans have
a hard time understanding. Utah's LOSSES also count in the overall season
ledger. It really doesn't matter how many PAC 10.2 teams get
into the Big Dance, because regardless of how many, U won't be one of
them.Just because you only lost to the #7 Wildcats by 3 points,
doesn't mean you're even close to as good as Arizona. The same
principle applies when comparing BYU and Utah. I know it's a difficult
concept for U to come to grips with, but if you think about it long enough,
I'm confident you'll eventually see the light.#39
BYU(18-6) much, much > than #168 Utah(10-11)btw, did you realize
that #164 San Diego, #149 San Francisco, #89 Santa Clara, #58 Saint Mary's,
#39 BYU, and #11 Gonzaga are all ranked ahead of the Utes in the RPI rankings?
Bottom third of the WCC, impressive.
@spokane uteIt appears that someone attended snack time, but not
math class. Let me try and simplify the concept. BYU 11 wins - utah 1 win >
BYU 10 times the team. You may want to ask your neighbor what the
">" sign means.I could go on and keep discrediting and
mocking the rest of your post but there is no need. I've humiliated you
sufficiently enough already.LOL!
Another interesting Stat. Colorado is #24 per RPI rankings. That makes
Utah's win the best by any team in the state. Utah also has a win over #51
Boise State. Too bad there hasn't been more of them. BYU's
best win? #89 Santa Clara (twice)
@sooneruteActually BYU is 11 wins in the last 12 games better than
@SnackPACIt appears that someone attended snack time, but not math
class. Let me try and simplify the concept. BYU 61 - Utah 58. 61 > 58. You
may want to ask your neighbor what the ">" sign means.Who said
anything about the PAC 12? Let's stay on topic:WCC Teams in the
Project Field of 64: One, (1), unno......GonzagaWCC Teams in the top 25:
One, (1), unno.........GonzagaWCC Teams who have beaten a ranked opponent:
One, (1), unno....GonzagaI hope that helps, but something tells me that
you are trying to pick an arguement; just for the sake of arguing.
Spokane Ute"Gonzaga carries the conference: don't kid your
self!"As far as the PAC 10.2 goes, Utah is riding the coattails
of Arizona, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Colorado and
the rest of the PAC 10.2 in just about every sport except women's
gymnastics: don't kid YOUR self!
Spokane Ute"Usually when a team wins by 3 points; that pretty
much means they are 3 points better than there opponent."Not
really, It's not uncommon for a very good team to play down to the level of
their competition, but if you really believe that one head-to-head game
definitively determines the difference between two teams, then you have to agree
that since UCLA beat Arizona(84-73) andCal Poly beat
UCLA(70-68) andSanta Clara beat Cal Poly(72-64) andBYU beat Santa
Clara(82-64) andBYU + 18 + 8 + 2 + 9 = 35,BYU being 35
points BETTER than #7 Arizona, should obviously be a lock for an NCAA #1
@UteanymousUsually when a team wins by 3 points; that pretty much
means they are 3 points better than there opponent. I know the whole score board
concept is difficult for you to grasp. I know this same concept is questioned by
BYU fans when discussing football. Just curious; exactly how many
differen't screen names do you post under? As far as the WCC
goes; Gonzaga carries the conference: don't kid your self!
Wow BYU fans will never learn. I can't argue with stupidityWeaker
Conferences = Weaker Recruits I admit you guys are probably looking at great
seasons until 2015 but after that it's back to the 1-26 season
That's a good win for the Utes; as Colorado is projected to be in the field
of 64. Now the Utes need to keep it up. The program is still headed in the right
direction; it's just tough to be patient. GO UTES
sports4life1Do you have even the foggiest idea of the calibre of
players already in or soon to join BYU's basketball program for the next
several years?(Here's a hint: BYU's "JV Program"
is ranked #1 and is poised to win the national championship.)If not,
then you have absolutely no basis for any of your dire predictions. If you do, then your analysis is hilariously clueless.
sports4life1Instead of making clueless predictions based on nothing
but your own BYU hatred, you need to accept a little dose of reality.- BYU is still coached by Dave Rose, who has led BYU to 6 straight 25+ win
seasons - BYU is beefing up its non-conference schedule to offset
their overall weaker WCC schedule.- Gonzaga, Saint Mary's and
BYU would all be very competitive in the PAC 12 or MWC conferences. - Many teams from the WCC have had great success in the NCAA tournament.- Despite the slightly down year for BYU, the Cougars will sign their
best recruiting class EVER in 2013.- BYU has played similarly weak
teams in the WAC and MWC for decades without the mediocrity of the conference
bottom dwellers "blending" with BYU in the slightest.- BYU
has played in every NCAA tournament since 2006; Gonzaga has played in every NCAA
tournament since 1999.- Not a single PAC 12 team has played in every
NCAA tournament since 2006: Utah has only played in one and the Utes aren't
even close to returning anytime soon- Ignoring recent history
because it doesn't fit your own biased narrative is a sign of desperation.
SoonerUte"The irony is that "mighty" Cougar basketball
is only 3 points better than the Utes."Typical delusional Utah
fan spin.Using the same "point spread" argument, U could
extrapolate that #7 Arizona is also only 3 points better than the Utes, meaning
that BYU and Arizona, who both beat the Utes by 3 points, are equal.Of course, the "logic" gets really fuzzy when U consider:UCLA beat Arizona(84-73)Cal Poly beat UCLA(70-68)Santa Clara beat
Cal Poly(72-64)BYU beat Santa Clara(82-64)A little quick math
reveals that BYU is actually 35 points BETTER than #7 Arizona.
sportsauthorityI said BYU is a good program right now but that's not
going to keep up in the future when you play poor opponents in your conference.
What are you trying to say the WCC is better than the PAC-12 well a terrible
case to argue. The WCC is the best it's ever been and it's still
ranked like 10th overall. Also BYU Fans THIS IS NOT LAST SEASON. The PAC 12 usually has like 5 teams in the Big dance each year and have a good
oppurtunity to get 5 this year. Also one poor season where 3 teams were on the
bubble including the NIT champion doesn't represent every year. Sure BYU is
a very talented team right now but what about when they don't have a good
season, who's going to want to get recruited then. The answer is no one
which will leave BYU blending in with teams like san Diego, Portland, and San
Francisco. teams that are at the Same level as the Big Sky. You
can call Utah your rival right now but truth is poor conferences lower your
recruits over time. Therefore your next rival is Weber State.
"This irony of Ute basketball success measured by the hope of stringing two
wins together in this conference is almost beyond comprehension."The irony is that "mighty" Cougar basketball is only 3 points better
than the Utes.
Motortike and ClehmanThis irony of Ute basketball success measured
by the hope of stringing two wins together in this conference is almost beyond
comprehension.Who would have imagined this? Certainly not the proud
collective of UteNation.Yes, it's exciting and boring at the
same time. I'm on the edge of my couch every night wondering about Ute
possibilities. I also wonder about the PAC10.2 network mysteries. LOLWho needs the Sunday comics when you have Ute basketball?
sports4life1"BYU may be considered a okay rival in basketball
now but lets face it your in the WCC conference that conference is never going
to be close to as good as the PAC 12 is... No good recruits want to play for the
WCC conference. Have fun with your new Rival The Weber State Wildcats."LOL!Obviously, you haven't been paying much attention
lately.Gonzaga, from the WCC, is currently ranked #6 in both the AP
and Coaches polls, higher than any team from the PAC 10.2, and is currently
projected to be a #2 seed.Last year, the WCC had more teams invited
to the Big Dance (three), than the PAC 10.2 (two).BYU, in a
rebuilding year for Dave Rose and even without including Jabari Parker, will
sign its best recruiting class in history in 2013.Our so-called
"new rival" Weber State, at least according to you, has NEVER beaten BYU
in any sport at BYU - something like 0-90 lifetime.By the way, is
that what passes for grammar, spelling, and punctuation at your high school?
cougfan BYU may be considered a okay rival in basketball now but lets face
it your in the WCC conference that conference is never going to be close to as
good as the PAC 12 is. They've had success in recent years but lets face
you have san francisco, San Diego, pepperdine, portland, and layola marymount 4
schools that will are no better than the Big Sky conference. You downgraded
your competitiveness when the Utes significiantly increased it. Enjoy the last
few years of actually being able to compete against a PAC 12 school. No good
recruits want to play for the WCC conference. Have fun with your new Rival
The Weber State Wildcats.
QP"wow the posts on this article from BYU fans are completely
pathetic"When talking about the rundown Utes, how could the
comments be anything but completely pathetic?
If you guys don't mind me interrupting the BYU vs. Utah trash
talking....The Utes are going to have their hands full on Wednesday.
OSU is performing way below expectations, especially when they had a
respectable preseason. Even though the coach is Obama's brother in law
(put a wig on him and he looks just like Michelle) he may not be able to keep
the job if they lose to the Utes. Expect a hard fought game and if the Utes win
they can take credit for bumping someone in the Obama clan out of office.
wow the posts on this article from byu fans are completely pathetic. You all say that you don't care about the Utes baskeball program yet you
all take time to comment multiple times about it. As Motorbike pointed out on
Super Bowl Sunday none the less. I guess you were too busy to comment on the
handful of articles about byu landing a recruit, volleyball, swimming etc. As for the Utes, it wasn't pretty down the stretch but they held on
for the win against a pretty good Colorado team. I would like to see them take
the same style of play on the road. If they can put the same effort on the
floor against Oregon State, they could get back to back wins. It would also
help if Loveridge is healty enough to play.Go Utes!
"After getting a win against Colorado, can the Utes do it again?"The fact that a possible win against the lowly Beavers - 11-11, RPI 159
- is even debateable says more about how far Utah's basketball program has
fallen than most Utah fans would care to admit.
motorbike"So just accept the fact that your brother in arms
failed in his attempt to poke fun at Utah's new 'rival.'"sammyg was spot on in poking fun at Utah's new rival; the only
failure was Utah fans desperately trying distract from the true essence of his
comments. Not a single Utah fan offered any evidence whatsover that
the crux of sammyg's argument, the complete lack of smack by any Utah fans
on any blogs of Utah's new "rival".Utah fans are a talk
(on BYU blogs), but no walk (posting on Colorado blogs) when it comes to
Utah's new rival. The truth is, there is no rivalry between Utah and
Colorado, the Buffs are nothing more than a travel partner for the Utes.
SportsFan,"two words: reading comprehension"We
all fully understand the technicality which is the base of your silly argument.
We simply find it amusing that in CougFaninTX's attempt at poking fun, it
was he who was caught with his pants down. So just accept the fact
that your brother in arms failed in his attempt to poke fun at Utah's new
"rival." And no, I'm not one who actually calls Colorado our rival
and I don't know many if any Ute fans that do. In other words, you're
all wasting your breathe anyway. BYU is indeed still our rival, feel better?
clehman"sammyg, yawning on baited breath? That's amusing.
You come to Utes articles to yawn. See how funny that sounds? Please."BINGO!
sammygYawning on baited breath? That's amusing. You come to
Utes articles to yawn. See how funny that sounds? Please.
Are Ute fans supposed to care about CU?
54-IQ"No such paper as the Rocky Mountain News so I wonder what
you were reading."motorbike"You sound like a
defense attorney who knows his client is guilty but took the case
anyway."Technically, you're both wrong (untruthful as you
characterize it).The website for the Rocky Mountain News is still
up. The last article posted is dated Feb. 27, 2009, but The E.W. Scripps Co. has
updated the copyright to 2013.Regardless, it's common knowledge
that the Utes care so little about the Buffaloes, that it doesn't really
matter whether a Colorado blog is active or long since extinct, not a single
Utah would bother posting on it anyway.
motorbiketwo words: reading comprehensionJust because
the Rocky Mountain News is now defunct, doesn't mean that CougFaninTX was
"untruthful" when he stated that no Utah fans had posted on the Rocky
Mountain News blog. The only thing that you can derive from his post
was that he was so sure that no Utah fan cared enough about the Buffaloes to
post any smack on a Colorado blog, that he didn't even bother to check. With or without the existence of the Rocky Mountain News, his comment is
still valid. Utah fans are straining at a gnat, while swallowing a camel.
Truth Machine,"The only one's "busted" are Utah

what you both described as a slow news day (though it was Super Bowl Sunday).
Remember your own comment? "... it must be a slow news day for someone to

didn't care about BYU. Clearly I care enough to periodically comment.Ute fans = realityBYU fans = cute bubbly blue world

lie? CougFaninTX was absolutely truthful in stating:"I'm

"I makes my day brighter."I'm happy for you downer.
Listening to sammy and downer trying to explain away their obsession with Utah
athletics is quite entertaining. With Jordan and Dallin back, the
Utes have a much better chance of staying in any game. If we can get
contributions from Jeremy as well, we can win them.Let's go
Re: CougfaninTXYou do realize I hope that the Rocky Mountain News

as informed as you think you are yet you are still obsessed with all things
related to the Utes.
Motor,As I recall the Utes played on Saturday and the Super Bowl was on

is that different? By the way I really don't care about Utah basketball,
the University could cancel the b-ball program and I, along with the 60 fans
that attend the games could care less. It's just so much fun to see you,
Chris B, and others try to somehow defend being a fan a Utah. I makes my day
Congrats on the win against Colorado. I'm only disappointed in one thing -
if the Buffs are your new rival, why is there not a single comment from a Ute
fan in the Rocky Mountain News or Denver Post talking "smack" to the
Boulderites? When U played the Cougs close in December, U posted
hundreds of comments in the DNews and SLT. Let's face it, even though
we're not aligned by conference - U still consider the Cougs your true
rival and always will. I'm flattered.
You serious Sammy? You know that BYU has played on Root Sports a couple times
already this season, right? And that Root is a small affiliate of FSN?
MotortikeYou got one point correct... I really don't care. Oh,
I do try to watch a moment or two of a game when I can but don't kid
yourself, I don't waste a lot of time or effort to watch an entire game of
this train wreck. What was funny the other day is that I'm in
Longmont CO for training and the Utah/Colorado game was not to be found on the
glorious PAC12 net. FSN? LOLHere's hoping you win
a second game in a row so the rest of us can be entertained by the 100's of
comments of hope, praise, and predictions of grandeur from the faithful likes
of... all six of U basketball fans.
Down under,"Yes, it must be a slow news day for someone to read
a Utah basketball article."Yeah, the Super Bowl is certainly a
slow day in the sports world. LOL! Looks like you've been exposed just like
sammyg. Thanks for caring about our Utes, much appreciated!
Motor bike,Yes, it must be a slow news day for someone to read a Utah
basketball article. I agree with sammyg, two wins in a row must be quite an
accomplishment. You must be so proud. I'm sure the NCAA selection
committee will be watching closely as they fill out their brackets.
sammygYou act like you don't care, yet here you are reading the
article and taking the time to comment. Actions speak louder than words my
friend ... thanks for caring.
Kind of funny that winning two in a row is such a conference defining moment. We wait with bated breath... yawn.
Come on Utes. We're on the right trajectory. Keep working together!
If Utah is going to win back-to-back conf. games this season this is, by far,
their best opportunity to do it.Get it done fellas.
