What a blast from the past! Please keep him in there. No reason for him to see the light of day again.

There is far more to this story can could be told in the newspaper. The Singer family, wherein the saga began, suffered extreme persecution for their beliefs and commitment to home school their children. At one point an agreement was made that a recognized education professional would evaluate the Singer family children. The professional's evaluation was that the children were being well educated at home, and that their social skills were excellent. However, the persecution continued and violence followed. I think Addam Swapp should be released so he has a chance to be a productive member of society.

They need to keep all these criminals in prison.

The story doesn't mention that the whole Singer thing started over home schooling. How times have changed.

He killed a Utah State law enforcement officer. Fred House's family will never enjoy a moment of Fred's warmth as a father or as a husband. Why should he be granted the warmth of his family when to ripped Fred away from the family he loved and protected. Fred was serving us, the citizens of Utah, when Addam Swapp was responsible for his death. He should never be given the opportunity to enjoy what he destroyed for others. Please keep him in prison.

I believe in second chances.

Nan,

that's why the Swapps shot at federal agents?

When Fred House can again see the light of day, then let Addam Swapp out of prison.

I lived in Kamas during the time that John Singer homeschooled his kids. He came to our house several times to fix our tv (he was a television repairman) and sometimes brought his kids with him and a couple of times we went to his compound to drop off or pick up our tv. I certainly recall the education level and social skills of Singer's kids' differently than Nan does -- and I say that as a homeschooling parent myself. Singer brought most of his problems on himself through his fanatical beliefs.

This was at a time when polygamists were viewed by most, through the same glass as mainstream Mormons (just a tiny bit more extreme). John Singer was an embarrassment. Anyone who lived through this knew that the Singers were being trapped in their home over home schooling and the Highway Patrol were pushed to act. Bottom line, the Singers were a strange family who made the mistake of getting noticed. The killing of John Singer was unnecessary.

To Beverly. Addam Swapp did not kill fred house. Timothy Singer was charged with killing Fred house when he was shooting at the attack dogs sent after Addam.

To Zadruga Guy. You can homeschool your kids without harrasment from the state of Utah because of the stand that John Singer made.

Oneoldman; all I can do is parrot a lot of other comments i see on these boards at different times: documentation, documentation, documentation.

Keep in mind that John Singer died one year after another religious fanatic convinced his wife and children to jump off a hotel in downtown SLC. A sense of trying to stem the harm that non-mainstream parents can do to their spouses and children permeated law enforcement and the judiciary, and that horrible event was fresh in everyone's minds.

Everyone has the right to their own religious beliefs. What you people dont underwtand is that John Singer was murdered. He was shot in the back.

This isn't "news" it's speculation.

I know people that remember John Singer said he had some peculiarities. I don't think homeschooling and polygamy cost him his life. Tragic for what he went through. Most polygamists I think are off. DAvid Koresh and Warren Jeffs did much harm to people in compound using religion.

However if they are not harming anyone I would say leave them alone. HOmeschooling may have been permitted when Singer lost his life. However even homeschool people have to answer people in the department of education to see the kids are up to par with people who go to school. That may be why people from State were there. Police never want to take a human life so I am sure more than seeing that his kids were taught right caused what happened.

As for standoff later I was in grade school when it happened. Bombing a church and not allowing someone to see his kids grow up that is crime and him getting out not fair to his victims who lost someone close to them. Whoever is responsible for death shouldn't be let out.

Second chances come in heaven. Maybe
But not here on the earth.

IMO John Swapp's comments are not helping Addam's case.

@JohnSwapp,

The siege was a result of Addam's decision to blow up a church. He hasn't served 25+ years as a result of a stray bullet that killed an officer. He served 10 years for blowing up the church. He will only serve 15 years max for the death of Lt. House.
