Per Sagarin, byu's SOS ranked #63 nationally, UTAH's #41....W/an Oregon team returning most of their starters being added as well as an even stronger Stanford, the disparity between the two will widen closer toward the even greater disparity of 2011 and beyond.

Don't kid yourselves, The PAC-12, from top-to-bottom, was greatly improved this past season and will continue trending upward this coming season.

ND didn't have their starting QB against byu last year....On the same, exact field, ND made yet another mediocre team in PITT look like a world-beater, too.

USC has yet another top-flight recruiting class incoming....Their problem isn't athletes/talent, it's Kiffin, the great equalizer....ASU returns Consensus All-America Will Sutton and yes, his impact is that significant....ASU is a legitimate contender to win The South Division.

This is the first schedule in byu's history which even remotely resembles the week in, week out grind of a schedule UTAH's played the past 2 years....And their desperation regarding UTAH is palpable in conveniently placing a bye-week just prior to it, but alas, it will unequivocally be in vain, as such is life in being straight owned by your rival, as byu is straight owned by UTAH.

Remember, humility is the key....I recall the supreme confidence of the byu-fanbase just prior to last September's game to not just simply be a byu victory over UTAH but rather via brutally curb-stomping UTAH, w/outrageous final-margin predictions...."Be Thou Oh Humble", or something to this effect....We could all learn its application and all find it equally useful....Good luck to us all in doing so.

"#35 Tulsa, BYU opponent in the Armed Forces bowl, was ranked higher by Sagarin, than either of last season's Sun Bowl participants - #39 Utah and #56 Ga Tech"

Wasn't this during the same season UTAH humiliated byu on their homefield,54-10?

And memo to byu fans....You all collectively guaranteed a victory last year against UTAH and also the year before that....When do you believe you'll finally learn your lesson?

Furthermore, let me get this straight, because byu manages to barely beat USU at home these past two years and after losing key-players, particularly those surrounding Van Noy on D, and how byu's last visit up there turned-out [one which didn't go into OT following a missed game-winning FG and later involve a phantom-call during OT reversing a called TD], which produced USU whipping byu convincingly, byu's a lock to beat USU up there? Huh?

definitely INferior:

#34 BYU vs #35 Tulsa in Dallas > #39 Utah vs #56 Ga Tech in El Paso

#26 BYU vs #66 SDSU in San Diego > #61 Utah vs couch potatoes in SLC

WAC #16 Utah State and #21 San Jose State > PAC 12 unranked USC and Utah

2011 #25/#26/#34 BYU > unranked #39 Utah

2012 unranked/#26 BYU bowl winner > unranked/#61 Utah bowl no show

When are you going to wake up and smell the coffee? Conference labels like "team from a relevant conference" don't mean diddly when determining where any particular team places in the final rankings.

"Wasn't this during the same season utah humiliated BYU on their homefield [sic], 54-10?"

Not only did BYU finish higher than utah in Sagarin (#34 vs #39), but BYU also finished #25 in the Coaches Poll and #26 in the AP Poll.

PROVING...

that one game does not a season make!

It's laughable that utah fans whine about how "difficult" their schedules have been, when the utes have at least 3 or 4 patsies on their schedule every year. Yet, even with four gimmies - No. Colo(5-6), California(3-9), WSU(3-9), and Colorado(1-11) - on their 2012 schedule, the sorry utes only managed to win 5 games, and without BYU's gift scoop and score to utah, the utes wouldn't have made it to 5 wins.

BYU played FIVE Top 25 teams in 2012. Utah only played TWO. The bottom five teams of BYU's schedule may have been "easier", but seriously, how tough were utah's patsies with a combined record of 12-35? In reality, BYU had one more gimmie than utah.

As far as the "gap" widening in 2013, you're seriously delusional. BYU's schedule could very easily be more difficult than utah's.

@Snack Pac

You crack me up, even your screen name shows how truly jealous you are of Utah being in the Pac 12. You write posts all the time trying to spin how the cougies are better. Only problem is no matter the spin you put out there you can't change the fact the utes own the cougies. 3 straight, 8 of 11, absolutley dominate overall series!

You continue to claim one game don't matter. Um ok I'm sure Bronco's pre-game speach when playing Utah is one game don't make a season guys. Lets head out there lose to Utah again then finish the year strong beating as many teams as we can in the state of Idaho and New Mexico thats what matters guys not this game against utah.....LOL

No spin necessary to prove that BYU is better than Utah. The final rankings are the final word on every season.

Nobody claimed that one game doesn't matter and that BYU fans don't care about beating Utah, but one game does not a season make, unless, of course, it's the national championship game.

Just as in school, it doesn't matter how many quizzes you ace during the term, the only thing that really matters is the final grade.

During the Bronco/Kyle era, BYU has finished higher in the rankings than Utah in 5 of the 8 seasons.

Bronco has FIVE Top 25 finishes; Kyle only three.

Bronco has THREE Top 15 finishes; Kyle only one.

BYU has been more impressive against BYU's schedule than Utah has been against Utah's schedule. That's a fact reflected in the final rankings.

Why would BYU fans be jealous of a conference bottom dweller who isn't even good enough to qualify for a bowl with four gimmies on their schedule?

"You crack me up, even your screen name shows how truly jealous you are of Utah being in the Pac 12."

You obviously don't understand the difference between mocking and jealousy.

No matter how you spin it, finishing higher in the rankings is BETTER than finishing lower in the rankings.

BYU beat Utah State
Utah State beat Utah
Utah beat BYU

Of the three, who was the best?

Obviously, Utah State, which not only finished with the best record, but, more importantly, the highest ranking.

AP/Coaches/Sagarin
#16/#17/#19 Utah State(11-2) > unranked/#26 BYU(8-5) > unranked/#61 Utah(5-7)

That's just the way it is.

Why does EVERYONE understand this very simple concept, except for Utah fans?

"BYU's schedule could very easily be more difficult than utah's."

You sound very sure of yourself. lol

Let's just all agree that both schools will see their most difficult schedules in their respective school's history. That's a fact.

Can't wait.

Keep drinking the koolaid whatsinit. Of course it is possible for the y to go undefeated, it is also possible for earth to be destroyed by a giant meteor this year. Now lets talk about probabilities. Not likely.

@gdog

But you see the hypocrisy from utah "fans" is the issue. It doesn't bother me if utah "fans" make delusional predictions about their teams, I actually enjoy it as it gives moe stuff to mock them about. What I enjoy doing is pointing out the hypocrisy of utah "fans".

You see many of you make absolutely insane predictions about the quality of the utah athletic program while alternately knocking the quality of the BYU program, then you whine about it when a BYU fan says anything that might even be slightly construed as a negative about BYU. In otherwords blatant hypocrisy. And I LOVE it!

There is not an argument that can be made that utah has a superior, or for that matter even equal, athletic program to BYU's. utah's is so vastly inferior across the board that they are not even a blip. Yet utah "fans" still delusionally claim that utah is superior based on nothing more than an affiliation with other schools vastly superior to themselves yet roughly equivalent to BYU as athletic programs.

But I have no problems with your comments, keep them up, it gives me stuff to mock.

"Bronco has FIVE Top 25 finishes; Kyle only three.

Bronco has THREE Top 15 finishes; Kyle only one."

Why did you stop at listing top 15 and not continue to top 10 and top 5? It wouldn't be becasue Bronco has 0 and Kyle does would it?

Anybody can come on here and list things that favor their team while leaving off things that don't. Cougie fan's are famous for it.....LOL!

"BYU has been more impressive against BYU's schedule than Utah has been against Utah's schedule. That's a fact reflected in the final rankings."

Too bad they can't make that a fact on the field where it matters. Rankings schedules etc. are subjective the game is not my friend. Using your logic the Ravens shouldn't be in the superbowl the Bronco's and Patritots both have better rankings and records. The ravens beat em head to head on the field however thats why they are better...get it?

"Why did you stop at listing top 15 and not continue to top 10 and top 5?"

Why not? ONE great season is Kyle's ONE significant accomplishment in 8 seasons.

Kyle has as many losing seasons as he has great seasons.

"Using your logic the Ravens shouldn't be in the superbowl [sic] the Bronco's and Patritots [sic] both have better rankings and records."

The one who's not using logic here is YOU!

Super Bowl teams are determined by which teams win in the PLAYOFFS, not by which teams are the better.

It's interesting that you immediately trot out Kyle's Top 5 ranking in 2008, yet you conveniently choose to ignore the rankings when they don't support your agenda.

@2irreleventandancient"wins"

The nfl has playoffs, college football doesn't, not yet anyway. Based on the college football system in place over that span BYU has unquestionably been the superior team in national accomplishment. More wins, more top 25 finishes, those are the measuring sticks...get it?

LOL!

Here's your answer courtesy of another blogger on another thread.

Which of the following is true?

Answer each one truthfully and you'll have your answer why head-to-head results don't definitively determine which team is better.

1. Texas A&M was better than National Champion Alabama in 2012.
2. Colorado(3-10) was better than Utah(8-5) in 2011.
3. UNLV(2-10) was better than Utah(9-4) in 2007.
4. New Mexico(6-7) was better than Utah(8-5) in 2006.
5. SDSU(5-7) was better than Utah(7-5) in 2005.
6. Texas A&M(4-8) was better than Utah(10-2) in 2003.
7. BYU(2-5) was better than Conference Champion Utah(6-2) in 1942.

The evidence is overwhelming and is reflected in the polls and in the national rankings that one single head-to-head game during an entire season doesn't prove which team is better.

BSU BRONCO!!

This is a heck of a schuedule for BYU. Good luck in all games except the October 26th geme. BYU should at least end up 7-5 with this schedule, while the Yewtes are 4-8 at best! Cant wait to kick off the season again.

GO BRONCOS AND COUGS!!

One great season would be better then 0 significant accomplishment's for Bronco...LOL

"It's interesting that you immediately trot out Kyle's Top 5 ranking in 2008, yet you conveniently choose to ignore the rankings when they don't support your agenda."

Read my comment again I didn't trot out the top 5 ranking. I asked why your fellow cougie stopped at top 15 ranking and didnt continue to top 10 or top 5 the cougie troted the rankings out.

@Duckycontinuestohavenoclue

"Based on the college football system in place over that span BYU has unquestionably been the superior team in national accomplishment."

Why becasue you say so...LOL! The best a team can do in a season is go unbeaten. Kyle has done it twice Bronco 0. The utes have done it 9 times the cougies 1. So overall the utes have had far greater success then the cougies. They have also done it twice in the last decade where the cougies only one was 3 decades ago....get it? Actually no need to ask.... you don't get much...LOL!

"One great season would be better then [sic] 0 significant accomplishment's for Bronco...LOL"

So obviously, two epitome of major college football accomplishments for one program would be better than 0 such accomplishments for another program.

Such as winning a National Championship and a Heisman Trophy.

"Read my comment again I didn't trot out the top 5 ranking."

By asking the question, you absolutely did trot out Kyle's Top 5 ranking.

Undefeated seasons are only as significant as the rankings they achieve.

BYU's best season still far exceeds anything Utah has accomplished in their entire history.

BYU's 35 years of perennial Top 25 finishes far exceeds Utah's brief seven year flash-in-the-pan.

You do realize, don't you, that Bronco with FOUR AP/Coaches Top 25 finishes in the last 7 years, has nearly as many as AP/Coaches Top 25 finishes as Utah, with only FIVE, has in its ENTIRE HISTORY?
