Well there you go. Now everyone can cool their heels while justice takes its course.

How nice of the gov to ask for an ethics panel now that somebody has gotten caught. I would guess that the Attorney General would usually conduct an investigation and give advice on such an ethics panel, now what Gov?

Guess the Deseret News will need to stay diligent and make sure the federal investigation does not get swept under the rug?

You know if this was somebody that actually worked for the state, an employee, not an elected official, they would be looking for another job right now.

Talk about spin!

Swallow himself ASKED for the feds to do the investigation!

"Fair and balanced" is not a universal practice in the "news" media these days.

Swallow asked for an investigation after the investigation was already in the process. It's too bad the DNews & SLTrib don't do their jobs of investigating these politicians, who are involved in unethical dealings. Swallow's buddy, Shurtleff, has now escaped to a lucrative lobbying job without scrutiny why he was in office. The Dnews is more concerned with censoring commentors on these sights.

Swallow needs to resign and stop embarrassing our state and his family. It isn't hard to see through his politician lies and it isn't hard to see he swindled Johnson thinking he'd get away with the $600k.
This type of arrogance from politicians needs to be punished severely, hopefully making an example to others who think they are above the law. Resign John, Resign!

Swallow set off down the wrong path the day he decided to join with Reid. Consorting with left-wing extremists is a sure way to become entangled in ethical quagmires, if not illegal activity. This should be a cautionary tale to all who are tempted to stray from the right.

Or was the investigation already going on? Its not clear from the statement.

It's about time! If this were Vegas I'd put at least 20-1 odds that the feds don't bring any charges.

@Plyxply

Maybe youight have a leg to stand on...Only flaw with your argument is that Swallow never received any money.

Listen to Gov. Herbert and let's wait and see. If Swallow is innocent, there's no reason he should resign. If it was you in your current job, would you resign if you were innocent?

Leave it to the Feds to step in, when the State drops the ball.

The article very clearly states that Swallow received $23,000 in "consulting fees" while Deputy AG. This whole thing smells like the dead skunk in the middle of the road. Swallow will probably end up claiming, as Al Gore did years ago in response to some scandal, that he did nothing technically illegal. Ethically he should have declined to be involved at the time of the initial request.

How does a salaried employee receive "consulting fees" for legal work. Is he continuing this lucrative part time job while representing the State of Utah?

Yes, but who is investigating the Feds?

The U.S. Attorney is a BYU grad, Republican protege of Mike Lee. Do not expect any action from that quarter.

The Demmies always put the cart before the horse, let the case evolve, if there are charges made by fact other than inuendo, prosecute.
After all the democrats got a bye when Neil Gunderson did not prosecute Corridini when had enough probable cause to do so.

Once again we see a state abdicating their responsibility to address state issues. The national government has been overreaching its authority for decades. States whine about it, then abdicate their own duty. If the state does not trust the AG to investigate this than they have the power to hire a "special prosecutor" to run a state investigation and report back. Let's stop pretending that we are a conservative state that believes in states right. Let's instead BE a state that believes in states rights.

I think the fact that the allegations against Swallow began in the midst of an election campaign says something about how much weight we should, or shouldn't, give them.

To John Charity Spring: "Consorting with left-wing extremists is a sure way to become entangled in ethical quagmires if not illegal activity."

Really? Harry Reid is a left wing extremist? I mean, really? I wonder what that makes everyone in Congress who has "consorted" with him on both sides of the aisle all these years? Does that mean anyone who thinks progressively is contemplating unethical and/or illegal activities?
Time to venture out of the bubble!
