This reminded me of the old story of the young missionary who went with his companion to a dinner invite at a home that turned out to be filthy and foul smelling. So was the food.
But under the table were a couple of dogs, so when the missionary couldn't stomach what he was supposed to be eating, he started feeding it to the dogs.
When dinner was over and they moved away from the table to talk scripture, the poor missionary was horrified to discover that the dogs hadn't eaten the food, either.
