This is a decent review for the general public who may not know what YA paranormal romance is all about---teen characters who experience life and love with the kind of intensity many adults have long forgotten. The very elements the reviewer criticizes are conventions in *all* teen paranormal romances, including the wildly successful TWILIGHT series and others. Why criticize Ashton for executing the conventions of her chosen genre well? If the reviewer doesn't care for teen romance, why is she reviewing it?
