Manti said he talked to "his girlfriend" on the phone. Ronaiah is a guy. Who was the girl he talked to on the phone?
Why would a family friend keep up a hoax like this for three years?
The motive only makes sense if he has an audience for his prank, like the TV show, Punked.
Otherwise, it's funny for a couple of weeks.
And it takes work to keep up the scam. A woman, a cell phone, available to talk every few days, staying on the phone all night, getting updated photos... That's not easy to do. And you don't get any payback.
Since there's no evidence of any of that, this explanation lacks credibility.
But I'll go along.
Now, tell me why no one came forward on December 6th when the hoax was discovered? Why didn't anyone call the police? Why didn't they contact the NCAA? And why did Manti keep talking about her after he knew it was a lie?
What a headacke for Manti. Poor kid and good luck with NFL. oH, stay away from online dating thing which is not a good system.
Some people keep saying that this "family friend" wouldn't do this, or why would he keep it up for so long? Envy? Jealousy? It's not all that uncommon to see or hear of people who want to hurt those that move on to better things, especially when it's a friend of family member. Maybe this troubled soul was just jealous that Manti was better at something and knew that he would go on to a pro career and leave him behind. Some people can't deal with that.
