What a bunch of political lunatics who reside in Utah..I would really like to see a local sheriff try to arrest a federal agent who is enforcing federal statutes..Talk about bringing a table knife to a gunfight..Let me make myself clear,I adore firearms,I grew up with them,I have owned some since I was about 8 years old,etc,etc..That being said I do not understand why any sane human being would insist on owning hand grenades, multiple assault rifles, automatic weapons, tanks, bazookas, and the like..Does anyone really believe that these weapons will save them from a full-out military assault from the government? What I think is that quite a few people need to get some medication for their paranoia, and never be allowed around any sort of firearm..As for personal protection if a man needs more than a shotgun or a pistol/revolver,he is not much of a man...Guns are not toys and in my opinion they should not be owned for personal pleasure or to enjoy a Saturday afternoon at the gun club..They are essential, deadly tools,no more or less..

We need to get rid of all of the above.

According to polls, most of America is in favor of gun/violence control. Even moderate NRA members favor a number of policies President Obama and Vice President Biden are proposing.
We are extremely fortunate to have an extremely intelligent, innovative, fearless President who will not be intimidated by the radical conservative right wing.
Many radical conservative right wing media personalities and politicians seem to underestimate President Obama and what he can accomplish.
Remember.......Barack Obama was able to put National Healthcare in place......and he now presides over the nation in his second term as the leader of the greatest country in the world.

Given how Obama and the Federal government have handled our money and every other relevant issue and responsibility on the horizon, who in their right mind REALLY believes that they're capable of doing anything productive regarding public safety, school safety, or anything else? Are there still people out there who are naive enough to think these people really know what's best for the country? Besides ignoring rights and reality, to what extent is this just another distraction to avoid talking about the spending cuts that will be necessary to salvage what's left of the country?

Anybody who took the time to actually read the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller (June 26, 2008) holding that Americans have an individual right to keep and bear arms under the 2nd Amendment would discover that what President Obama is proposing regarding gun restrictions is Constitutionally permissible.

According to polls is a lie, they are never based on fact or the truth, actions of americans are the only evidence needed to refute these so called polls. They tend to confuse violence and gun legislation and controls as relative to any poll on violence.

Our congressmen are right to temper emotions and judgement with sensible thought and prudence with the exception of Matheson, he is playing political party doctrine against inalienable Constitutional laws.

Among all the accusation and claims, any law restricting access to defending ones self or their country the mental state and criminal past is irrelevant. We all have this inalienable right regardless of our history and past. Criminals are incarcerated and mentally challenged labeled individuals have the same rights as any citizens of this Courtnay regardless of age or mental state.

Mental state is a subjective and irrelevant issue as we are all subject from time to time in unstable actions but that does not make us mentally unfit as this law implies. A trick law to disarm Americans by designed government standards with off the cuff unconstituitonal legislation giving the government the power to create and label mental standards as they see fit.

I'm reading how moderate Republicans are saying how much sense the President is making. They are saying that their party should not oppose the proposals just because they were offered by Obama. The president was elected by a wider margin of victory (both times) than were Truman, Kennedy, Nixon (first election), Carter, Reagan (first election) and G. W. Bush (both times). The right wing Republican crowd can keep up their corrosive, anti-American efforts, but in the end, the American people will back President Obama and the GOP will become increasingly marginalized.

If any gun bill is to be passed, I ask our Utah delegation to
help attach an amendment to it legalizing silencers so
hunters don't suffer hearing loss.

Please don't further restrict guns for good people. Work
instead to give the mentally ill the treatment they need.

I ask our Utah delegation to try to make silencers legal. This would
help prevent hearing loss by hunters. I also ask that they work to
ensure the mentally ill get the help they need.

Please do not further restrict the rights of good people to
have guns.

Currently, proposals for greater gun safety may not go far enough.

There is a big hole in the proposals that can still allow violent people to possess guns. People are not restricted from owning and packing until they have been convicted of a FELONY.

But there are many who have long records of domestic violence and other violent acts whose actions have not yet reached the level of a felony. They may have long records of violent MISDEMEANORS but have not -- yet -- been convicted of a felony. When that finally happens it may well be too late for their victims.

In addition, many active gang bangers with long misdemeanor records may legally pack.

Should we take a look at expanding the no gun rules to people with violent records even though they have not been convicted of a felony?

Re:Timothy

Really?

" hand grenades,multiple assault rifles,automatic weapons,tanks,bazookas,and the like.."

The item on your list that makes any sense in the context of the current discussion is "multiple assault rifles". Way to go to the fringe there!

"As for personal protection if a man needs more than a shotgun or a pistol/revolver,he is not much of a man"

I guess if I am a real man I just rip my shirt off and wrestle the threat to the ground! What a laugh!

"Guns are not toys...should not be owned for personal pleasure or to enjoy a Saturday afternoon at the gun club..They are essential, deadly tools,no more or less.."

Wow...pretty narrow in your world view there! Guns were definitely recreational for me growing up. Aren't there Olympic events involving the sport of shooting? Why, yes there are!

"..believe that these weapons will save them from a full-out military assault from the government?" Ask the Afghans.

"...I adore firearms,I grew up with them,I have owned some since I was about 8 years old,etc,etc.."

Somehow, in the context of your other remarks, this sounds disingenuous.

Perfect example of illogical thinking and a good reason to restrict mentally challenged folks from arming themselves. Much like the man who shot his neighbor for "psychically raping his wife in her sleep."

Your partisanship is hilarious "Our congressmen are right to temper emotions and judgement with sensible thought and prudence with the exception of Matheson."

This is the same Utah lunatics who thought we should change MLK day to Browning Gun Day.

Well Grundle, I grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in a very isolated community where most of the recreation we had was hunting and fishing..I still have the Savage .22 rifle that my Grandfather gave me on my 8th birthday..He liked squirrel and rabbit and he expected me to provide these delicacies on a regular basis..Also the three shotguns I have were obtained by me before I entered the Navy at age 17...My pistol and revolver came before I was 25..As to the Afghans we ran over them in about 10 days and we still have our boots on their necks at this very moment...Yes,some people see firearms in a recreational context,I do not..To me they are lethal weapons to be used only when needed;i.e. to hunt or defend ones self...I am a bit curious though, what sort of threat have you ever faced(personally) that you could not repel with a sidearm or buckshot...You are correct in one thing,I am a real man and I do not scare easily..Especially from the NRA propaganda machine..

For there to be no survivors (wounded) coming out of Sandy Hook should make us all realize that the children and the teachers were all killed in an execution style method.

For all those who read the Book of Mormon, I have a question.

What is it you do not understand about the fact that 'secret works of darkness and murder and abominations" exists in a rogue element of our government at it's highest levels?

Barry is arguably the most power hungry President this country has ever seen. He has shown time and again, that he will do anything to make a name for himself. His sole agenda has been to rip apart any and all things that conservatives have enacted or going after the constitution as he sees fit. I still remember that during the first campaign, his priority was fixing the economy. When he couldn't do that after 4 years, he is now going to go after anything that he can stake his name to. This is just the beginning. Instead of trying to fix the most important things like the economy, he went on an "apology tour" and basically tore apart the last 100 years of what our service men died for. America in just 4 short years has lost it's Swagger. We have become a laughing stock internationally. When Reagan uttered his famous phrase after bombing Quaddafi in the 80's ( "he counted on America to be passive, he counted wrong") it ultimately lead to the end of the Cold War, America was Bad A. Now, Barry has become passive. The future is very bleak indeed

"America in just 4 short years has lost it's Swagger."
Since when did our nation adopt the "Clint Eastwood" approach to diplomacy?
Oh yeah that last president Dick Cheney and his little buddy.

For years I've heard the NRA and gun enthusiasts say "we don't need more gun laws, we just need to enforce the laws already on the books."

Meanwhile, Republicans, at the behest of the NRA, has slowly but steadily tried to dismantle gun safety measures and made it more difficult to enforce current laws.

How?

A)
Reportedly, the NRA lobbied Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R-Wis.), then chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, to insert a provision in the Patriot Act reauthorization in 2006 that changed the position of ATF director from one appointed by the administration to one confirmed by the Senate.
For the past six years, the Senate has not confirmed the nominees for ATF director by Obama or Bush. The current acting director also serves as the U.S. attorney for the district of Minnesota.

B)The number of agents is no greater than it was in the 70's and takes up to eight years between inspections of gun stores because of a lack of personnel. The agency also is prohibited from creating a searchable computer database for gun ownership records, according to current and former ATF officials.

Obama and Biden aren't concerned about decreasing violent crime - only banning guns. Once you understand this basic premise then all the gun-banning legislation makes total sense. Anyone doing HONEST research knows that Chicago banned guns and violent crime went WAY up so obviously if Obama were doing honest legislation aimed at reducing violent crime this statistic would be sited and used. The pattern of Barack Obama is obvious over the past several years - use a crisis to pass some ideology saturated legislation. It happens over and over. There stands Barack using kids as props in front of his trusty media. If the man is anything he is predictable. Utah and other states are going to have to slam Obama's fingers on gun banning until we finally get his attention. I swear every time I turn around Obama is fighting the states over some issue. It would be nice - just once - to feel like the man is on our side but don't hold your breath. The real war in this country is with the radical left and their king Obama and it's attempt to destroy the US constitution. GO NRA!!!!!

Hey patriot:

Can and will you show where it was said by the President that he was out to take your guns. Allso with that neet little show the NRA put on about the Presidents children was there not from him about the goverment helping to get people to protect the schools? Or is it that you have such a hate for the President that you can not see past what FOX news and AM radio is saying or are you just aNRA lemming that only hears what you want? And the kids wrote letters to him and ask him to help stop the violene oh but the NRA or Fox let you know that did they. You truely neen to find a new news station like CNN.they tell the truth a lot more than FOX.
