A tale of two halfs. Cougs did not play well in first half and played extremely well in 2nd half. But best of all is the continued improvement by Carlino. It must be the hair.
The slow starts are a bit frustrating. They can be overcome against teams like Pepperdine, or bad teams like utah, but that will not be the case against Gonzaga. They need to figure out a way to play well the entire game to beat good teams.

The key to fast starts is defensive intensity.
If the Cougars had started the game with the same defensive intensity as they started the 2nd half, the game would have been over by halftime.
Saturday will be a good test. A win on the road against Santa Clara would be very helpful come tournament selection time.
To Duckhunter: I'm a Cougar fan too, but, didn't BYU barely escape with a win against Utah at home, a time that took Arizona to the wire? For one I'm glad to have a Utah team on the rebound.

So? Obviously arizona isn't all it's cracked up to be either. But aside from that college baksetball teams play somewhere around 30 games per year. Over the course of that every team is going to play down to their competition a few times, like BYU did against utah, and play out of their heads as good as they possibly can, like utah did against BYU. The difference is BYU WON the game. utah LOST the game, for the 11th time in 12 meetings.
Good team, bad team. Winning team, losing team.
