A nice article, but leaves out the many complexities of the financial enterprise that makes up the postal service. Billions of overpayment into the retirement funds, both Federal Employees and the Civil Service funds would more than compensate the prefunding of health care benefits "EARNED" by these employees as part of the compensation package. Granted that these are very generous in these more stringent times. Don't forget that these benefits were exchanged in bargaining for higher wages at that time. Unintended consequences certainly but the postal service and the servants that have earned these benefits should not be held ransom by our do nothing congress. There have been ample revenues from postal rates to cover this bill if congress would act responsibly instead of garnering votes and symapthies to pad their own wallet.
The PO is bleeding red because it is being required to do something no other enterprise has to. My head is spinning trying to get it wrapped around "Affordable Health Care Act" and the not- yet- completely- funded- for- every- employee thing that the Post Office is facing ---
