Good on Zach Dawe but let's take it easy on "the bad Murray kid" comments. Howard won the Layton tournament, one of the best tournaments in the state, was undefeated until that match and placed second in state. That is a pretty good resume. Dawe is a phenomenal wrestler who won the Reno TOC and took fourth place in the Beast of the East, the toughest tournament in the United States. Howard is plenty tough, Dawe is really tough.

As for PG vs. MM

PG wins at 106, 113, 132, 220, 285 but I would have to take MM in the rest of the weights. I think the two schools already met in dual competition and MM won handily. MM is so deep they moved up Wixom at 195 to wrestle Dennison at 220 I believe at Millard and Wixom won. MM is deep in many of these weights and some of their JV wrestlers in the middle weights beat the varsity wrestlers for PG. PG is good but MM is at another level.

Viewmont hasn't been much for some time? Second last year in 5A, still battling this year. 7 state times and two 2nd place finish in the last 10 years. Yes, the Vikes may not be up to its standards, but anyone who wrestles a Viking will tell you the program is certainly not off by much.

I don't know about the recruiting accusations against MM, but I will say this, they are tough. PG is dang good, too.

I never understood why people can't just write about the positives of their team or athlete, rather than attacking other programs. Such comments just look like sour grapes.

What I thought was cool was Ken and Andrew Astle winning. Not many families have two people in their home who are that good. Besides, the Astles are great young men.

Tell me why Wrestling Fans.....

Utah has like maybeee 1 kid go somewhere for wrestling scholarship....

Why???? How can 4 time state champs, or 3 time ones, and win tourneys in Reno, not go anywhere?

Is it just the newspapers dont report it or what???????????????

Over the past 10 years, Utah has got more respect for baseball, basketball, football, so whats takin people from recruiting these wrestlers?

Missions?????

I have gone to HUGE wrestling meets in Iowa and Nebraska, and they are packed basketball stadiums with people watchin one match!

So can someone let me know!

@ Binghamalum:
Here is my take on your question.
Back in the day, all the Universities and Colleges had wrestling programs and even rankings on a national scale. Then came titleIX and everyone dumped them, so first off, hats off to UVU for getting wrestling back in the state on a national level.
From what I understand very few schools offer full ride scholarships because the don't get that many anyway. So they split up a full ride and offer partial to 3 to 4 wrestlers. Utah kids (I can't speak for all schools but I can for PG) get offers but even at a partial scholarship it is far too expensive, cheaper for them to stay in state and wrestle here OR play another sport OR end their wrestling career than it is for them to pay a "partial" out of state tuition.

As for why the fan support does not catch on here, I have no idea. I can't speak for maple mountain, but PG has been a mainstay in wrestling for a long time and are 2 time defending state champions in 5A and are a favorite for a 3rd... and the gym is not even half full for home meets, yet basketball struggles and everyone attends. Go figure.
