And BYU appreciates the WCC, high academic standards and faith-based education. Those are commodities in short supply today.
BYU is filling these small gyms. I wish some of the road games for BYU would get moved to larger venues. I tried to go to the Portland game last year, but it was sold out, and 3/4 of the fans were BYU fans.
I love that BYU is in the WCC. It seems to be a competitive league that has some good values to boot. And the fans don't seem as snotty as the MWC fans were (including BYU fans). I hope that BYU stays for a long time in the WCC in all sports but football, and keeps indy in FB.
I wonder if this article is coming out now that there are rumors (yes just rumors) that BYU could be heading back to the MWC. WCC teams don't want to lose BYU.
Sure they like byu and the $8,000,000 a game they bring from ESPN.
Did that coach say "giving them additional tickets"? From what I understand when BYU comes to town, most WCC teams jack up the price for that game, knowing Cougar fans will pay the extra money. Giving is hardly the word that should be used.
@Ernest T. Bass
Goober just called, he wants his rocks back.
And Charlene says the answer is still No!
Ernest,
I looked for your utes on TV the other night and couldn't find them. No $8,000,000 from ESPN?
It doesn't matter if you play in a gym or in an arena. What matters is if you play well and win games. You play lousy and your arena will be empty of fans wanting to see the game. Isn't that right, ernest?
The NCAA knows who is competitive and who gets a ticket punched to the big dance and it never has used the size of the gate receipts or the TV rights as a criteria to make the decision. Isn't that right, Ernest?
You can be in a super conference and not win and you won't get invited to the big dance. Isn't that right, Ernest?
Didn't I read that at USF the other night, there were only 2,000+ fans at the game. I suppose that may have filled that arena. Does anyone know?

USF's War Memorial Gym seats a little over 5,000. About half of the 2,000+ fans who attended the BYU-USF game were BYU fans - a modest, but decent-sized group of BYU fans for a road game.
When BYU comes to town the ticket prices are at least double the regular pricing.
I was at the USF game - the place was about half full. Surprised not more USF supporters - I guess the students were still on Christmas vacation. For a while I thought I was at the Huntsman Center.
No Tom, had you been in the Huntsman Center you would have seen the final four banners
So refreshing after the bile spewed at us in the MWC. Why would we ever go back? MWC schools are eating crow, now.

I was a little confused by the numbers but the comparison to the HC was the perfect 'imagery' I needed to visualize what you were saying.
Great reporting! LOL
If BYU weren't a winning a program, then I'm guessing they wouldn't care so much. Winning does a lot and BYU is perfect for this league. Strong, stable program, but also not completely dominating. But I have a feeling we are back to the MWC shortly.
@ belgie
The MWC is not eating crow, especially in basketball. That league is reaally solid this year and might grab 4-5 bids.

U 90 -
What I saw at War Memorial Gym was 3 National Championship banners. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Sounds like a good fit for everyone involved. Just hope the Cougars can keep rolling. As Carlino goes so go the Cougars.
I went to the BYU/USF game on Saturday night. There were about 2,000 people in attendance and a little bit over half were BYU fans. Most of the USF fans were alumni since the students were on break and the weather was horrible. I've enjoyed seeing BYU play at USF, Santa Clara University, and Saint Mary's College. Also, all of the folks at those schools are super nice. There's no mocking Mormons or foul language. However, the Cougars are out of place. The next largest school in the WCC (Santa Clara) has only 8,000 students. Size wise, it's like Miss U.S.A. running for the high school homecoming queen court. Plus, University of the Pacific is joining the WCC next year, which won't add anything to the conference. BYU would be better off making a Notre Dame/ACC deal with the MWC where the football team stays independent (keeps its television rights and is guaranteed 3-5 games), and the other sports participate fully. BYU sports will stagnate if it doesn't increase its competition level.
