That would be totally awesome. And great.
What is all this complaining about Laramie? If it had a 60,000 seat stadium, it would very much be like Provo, except the people would be more authentic and less arrogant. Oh well, enjoy the crazy crusade of independence!
Utah is the team that should go back to the MWC. That Pac-12 thing just ain't workin' out.
This just in . . . the Big 12 really want the Cougars they just haven't had time to get around to it . . . if it wasn't for the travel distance the SEC wants the Y . . . the Pac 12 wanted BYU but were afraid that the Y would make them look bad . . . did I mention that the Big 12 is pining away for the Y . . .
Naval Vet,
Byu's "uninteresting" home schedule next year includes Texas, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Middle Tenn State and Utah. There will be at least one more home game next year as well. MTS is a dog but that is otherwise a solid home schedule.
caleb in new york:
"...if we joined the MWC then you would still mock the Cougs for not being in the PAC 12. Too bad the Navy didn't teach you better than that."
It's true. They don't teach Naval personnel to not make fun of the cougars. Or at least they didn't back while I was on active duty.
So do you think they should?
eastcoastcoug:
"2014: Texas, Va, Houston, Boise St., So. Miss.,...2015: Nebraska, Michigan, Cinci..."
Sorry coug. Looks like you either weren't following along with the conversation, or are simply trying to pull a fast one.
I said should the MWC keep the cougars out, that "...should ensure the cougars are left trolling for one-off and 2-for-1 arrangements with relevant teams, and scrounging around the FCS and the Sun Belt (Murfreesboro?) to fill out the remainder of their uninteresting Home schedule."
LindonMan responded, "Naval Vet says BYU has an uninteresting home schedule," and listed the Y's 2013 Home schedule....but conveniently left out their 2014 or 2015 Home schedule. So I filled in the blank spaces he left.
Now you come back here and drop a list of 12 games ALREADY previously mentioned, plus an additional 4 games that are in fact NOT Home games, but rather primarily one-offs and 2-for-1s. You DID know that we were discussing "uninteresting Home schedule(s)" here didn't you?
Lightening Lad:
"BYU has to do all they can to show themselves as superior to the MWC in facilities, and tradition in order to recruit kids who would never consider the mid-majors."
If a kid would never consider a mid-major, how would they ever wind up in Provo? The cougars are mid-majors forever, remember? Just because the cougars left the MWC for Indy-irrelevance doesn't mean they're not still mid-majorey. Only Notre Dame is considered above the "mid-major" ranks. The cougars dropped down to Army/Navy status....only without all the national adolation that follows a service academy.
Even better.
Byu ought to follow ND's lead and stay indy in football only but agree to play 5-6 games every year with the MWC and rejoin with all other meaningful sports.
This would gives good games at the end of the year.
Best of both worlds.
It's interesting that the majority of comments from fans obsessed with BYU joining a conference come from BYU-haters, like Navel Vet, who has already posted SIX comments on this article alone.
Kinda makes you wonder why they're soooo "concerned" about BYU joining a conference, rather than remaining Independent.
Do they really have BYU's best interests at heart?
the big nessy:

Are you under the assumption that the Indy-WACers are calling the shots here? I have to laugh at the number of Y fans who are on here laying down their terms of joining the MWC....before even being invited! It's as if you all think conferences like the Big 12, the Big [L]East, and the MWC are vigilently moving heaven and earth just to get into a DISCUSSION with Holmoe. I got news for you. All they have to do is simply pick up the phone. His line isn't busy. He's anxiously awaiting anybody's call.
In the workforce, nobody will hunt you down to give you a big fat raise. You have to WORK for it, you have to EARN it, and you have to REQUEST it. What cougar fans are essentially doing by laying down their terms before a discussion or extended invitation would be like walking into a job interview, and already demanding a raise.

In your hard hitting investigation of my opinions of the Indy-WACers rejoining the MWC, you must have missed my first post on this thread. There, I said...
"I would love to see BSU and SDSU back in the MWC fold, and for the conference to also poach Houston and SMU from the Big [L]East, then stand pat as a 14-team conference...That should ensure the cougars are left trolling for one-off and 2-for-1 arrangements with relevant teams, and scrounging around the FCS and the Sun Belt (Murfreesboro?) to fill out the remainder of their uninteresting Home schedule."
I think it's pretty obvious whose interest I have at heart. By keeping the Y OUT of the MWC, my interest is in the MWC. Not the cougs.

LOL!
The truth is, you couldn't care less about the MWC.
NOBODY is "keeping the Y out of the MWC." BYU could rejoin the MWC anytime they wanted to. The Cougars simply aren't willing to give up the television rights that precipitated their leaving the MWC in the first place.

______________
After only two seasons? No wonder BYU fans quit so early. BYU should go back to the MWC then. They don't exactly seem to be BCS busting as an independent.
Band of brothers = BYU, Idaho & New Mexico St.
WACpaddled
The Band of Brothers has been a Top 25 team and has won two bowl games since going Independent.
Not quite as good as BYU fans were hoping for, but certainly MUCH better than the unranked, losing seasons the hilltoppers have managed.
The U was PADDLED by the WAC this year, going winless in the conference.
Wyoming plays football?? NAH!
A large portion of the comments continue to talk about the BCS--which is dead, being replaced by a 4 team playoff. The "automatic" qualifying program is out as there will be others making decisions as to who plays where. Having BYU in the MWC gives them no advantage to playing in a top tier bowl--winning a tougher schedule as an independent does. Plus they don't have to split revenue from bowl games with the other conference nobodies. I like the emerging schedule an until a top tier conference comes calling, I say stand pat. Cougars just need to develope an offense again that scores some points.
TrueBlue:
"The truth is, you couldn't care less about the MWC...NOBODY is 'keeping the Y out of the MWC.' BYU could rejoin the MWC anytime they wanted to."
It seems as if the "truth" eludes you. The "truth" is, I DO care about the MWC. Always have ever since its inaugural season. That doesn't mean I "prefer" it to the Pac-12. I don't. But I STILL cheer for every MWC team in every game save those vs. the Pac-12.
Here's ANOTHER "truth" for you. The Indy-WACers CANNOT rejoin the MWC anytime they want. They have to be invited first. That means, the Indy-WACers can't rejoin the MWC until the MWC wants. THEM; not YOU.
And thus far, no MWC invitation. Hopefully, there'll NEVER be one.
Snack WAC:
"The U was PADDLED by the WAC this year, going winless in the conference."
The U lost to a soon-to-be Top-15 WAC champion this year, in OT, and effected by a poor Offensive P.I. call that would have sent the game into 2OT. I'd hardly consider that being "PADDLED".
"PADDLED" would be losing big...something like 21-52, 24-48, or 10-54.
And for what it's worth, we only lost to ONE WAC team this year. We beat the ony OTHER one back on Sept. 15th, 24-21. Remember?
