respectably ranked WAC teams. That's a far cry from "played four WAC
teams."Need to beat Utah before commenting on them.
Wireless LawyerLehi, UTandSnarkProvo, UTBoth exquisite points. Thank you!
@Coug in ChinaI've heard it from him a few times... I'm guessing
the players all think its funny that the coaches use it so much so they use it
in interviews then laugh about it later. Again just a guess
KVN says in the article... “But the guys we have returning are just as
good and we’re going to be very, very gritty..." Please,
use any word but gritty. Tough, strong, tenacious, animals, cohesive,
unstoppable, etc... but we have had enough use of the word gritty forever!
Gritty and BYU sports should NEVER be used again in the same sentence.
KVN is now in my top 5 list of favorite BYU players of all time:1-Steve Young2-Jim McMahon3-Kyle Van Noy4-Harvey Unga5-Dennis Pitta
Hi Kyle! You don't know me, but I sort of know you. I've
raised 12 children to adulthood, so I've about seen it all...and I'm
very happy for the way you've taken the initiative to bring the kind of
quality to your life that you have. I met your aunt in Stockton, CA at a
girl's water polo game, where she spotted my "BYU Football" t-shirt
and introduced herself as "Kyle Van Noy's aunt". It was just a few
games into your first year at BYU, and she was very excited about you being
there. I told her you were at a great place and if you were serious about it, I
could see the talent and you'd have a terrific career there. Wow...I had no
idea. Your decision to finish at BYU is a wise one on many levels. Your
leadership value cannot be overstated, and your learning opportunity will go on.
I hope you'll also spend some time with the missionaries; the Priesthood
can bless your family forever, and amplify your personal qualities. Like
I've said to my own boys....I'm proud of you, son!
While it's every fan's right to vent about their favorite team
(coaching, scheduling, league affiliation, calibre of players), it's worth
noting when doing so that those most impacted by the program, the players,
consistently show a high level of loyalty and enthusiasm for their team.If the two most talented undergraduates in the program are happy enough
with the team's current state of affairs that they are excited about
staying for another year (and deferring a payday), that speaks volumes to me
about whether or not they're doing it right in Provo.Best
wishes to KVN and CH for a successful and injury-free Senior year.
Kyle Van Noy is an intelligent risk-taker. He could have opted for a big
contract as a second-round pick, but he chose to go for the upside. Now he can
be one of the top picks in the draft, and make mega-bucks. There's a risk
that he won't make it, but with the exposure that BYU will get next season
on ESPN against Texas, Boise State and Georgia Tech, and another game on NBC
against Notre Dame, KVN will be on everyone's list as the top LB in the
" ... knowing what it feels like to beat your rival ... "KVN/Hoff:Oh, and one other thing, it is flattering to know that
utah still believes BYU is their rival.
" ... KVN should have taken the money and run... "KVN/Hoff:I'm impressed you were almost the first troll to
post here.Nice code language, but what you actually meant to say
was, "I pray he will not be there next year when we play the Mighty
Cougars". Must be a miserable existence for you to NOT watch
your homeboys play in a bowl game. But I know you are looking forward to
Saturday night to watch basketball and the Wildcats hand utah their second
I spoke to Kyle for a brief moment the night before the bowl game, after the
team fireside. He was not standing in line to greet fans with some of the other
players or piling on the bus to avoid the crowd. He was helping put away chairs
in the cultural hall, without a word to anyone. That's class!
I was just checking TV listings to see when my team's bowl game on Regional
Fox was. But I heard there was a requirement to win six games to be eligible?
What's up with that? If only we could have played Northern Colorado twice
last year, we might have qualified to have those cheerleaders from Girlsie State
clean our clocks, again. Maybe we should have played BYU twice. Then we could
have stormed the field 6 times. I hate having our only bowl game be in
September. That still counts on Kyle's consecutive bowl streak, right?
No doubt now, the best defensive BYU player ever. Staying at BYU is very telling
of how he feels about the team and the university.
This article just shows the type of caliber of young men that BYU recruits. The
is an example of a real man.Let all the u fans squawk. They just
hate to see their one sport they like to brag on come to an end without going to
a bowl game and without ANY kind of accolades at all. Think about it.....Nothing
to cheer about from your own university! Let's see we can really get into
BBall....Oh, I guess we can't do that. Let's see....there's
volleyball ! !...I see, we don't even have a team. Well, let's
see...how about skiing? Now there is a sport that ESPN is just drooling about
covering. Maybe we ought to make complaining a sport or how about trolling?
Maybe the u could win a National Championship in that sport!
If Bronco puts his future and the season in the hands of Brandon Doman it's
going to be a very long and frustrating year. Having Van Noy and Hoffman back is
huge but talented players won't be enough to overcome the types of
ridiculous coaching decisions we saw this past year.
DuckhunterHighland, UTAre you sure you are talking about the
right guy? You seem to get the Reynolds brothers mixed up.
Well regardless of what anyone else thinks I am certianly happy about this.
You are all still debating who the best team in the state was? Give me a break.
Swallow your pride and accept that neither Utah or BYU were the best team this
@ ErnestBut, but, but.....they beat Northern Colorado ansd Colorado.
Give those Utes some credit where it's due. They OWN the
state of Colorado, right? They're the best team in Colorado, right? And
it's a good thing they don't play the Broncos or the Utes would beat
them, too, right?
Good, informative article. The draft analysis info was good to read about. I
would have liked to have seen that info in the initial article when KVN said
he's staying. Let's hope this decision doesn't backfire on him.
He'll be great to watch next season. Clock's still ticking on the
offensive side. Team won't do much better at all and likely worse against a
very aggressive schedule next year if there's not a change at the OC
I know Uteanymous, Utah couldn't beat anyone good last year.
He could win the Hiesman and be undefeated.
When Kyle announced he was returning to BYU to take care of unfinished business,
I don't think he was referring strictly to college football
accomplishments. As posted by KVN this morning, "Success isn't just about what you accomplish in your life. It's
what you inspire others to do." Never know who you can affect!! Takes
work!Looking forward to KVN having an unforgettable senior season!
Is it my imagination, or does it sound like Hedgehog changed his name to Chris B
and has now changed it to KVN/Hoff? Utah can take pride in beating
BYU 2 of the last three seasons on the final play of the game, but U can't
take pride as the best team in Utah. Come on, U didn't beat USU and
didn't even make it to a bowl game. At least two teams from Utah
represented the state well during bowl season - the two best teams in the state
- BYU and USU.I do find it interesting that KVN is coming back for
his Senior season and Krueger is leaving Utah before his. KVN would have been a
higher draft pick. I'm not sure if this is a statement about the
individuals or a statement about the programs? But it's an interesting
What has Utah State got to do with the WAC? USU football is no longer in the
WAC. Isn't SUU football ranked third in the state behind BYU
and USU?Glad to see Mr. Van Noy returning to complete his degree.
@KVN/Hoff....Wow, you really set yourself up for a beatdown with
that post. I have a feeling that Uteanymous is just the beginning, and he
didn't even pile on by reminding you how the "second best team in the
state" beat your team. Please, please tell us, if USU is only the second
best team in the state, who is the very best team in the state? We all would
like a hearty laugh to start our day.
KVN/Hoffman + Hill/Olsen spell doom for Utah"...and his team
fails to win a WAC championship as Utah State again proves to be the second best
program in the state."Utah State - 6-0 in the WACBYU - 3-1
in the WAC, BEAT the WAC championUtah - 0-1 in the WAC, tied with NM St
for dead last in the WACThe Utes will need to beat Weber State next
season to avoid dropping from third to fourth best team in the state.
I am glad you are coming back, reminder before 2013 season start.1.
If your D's are going to be that good, go easy on our Offense team during
Spring and Fall work outs. We need them to develop.2. Don't
hurt T. Hill which we need him and hoping that he will throw more than run
during work outs. Maybe his knee will tell him to throw for a while.3. Teo's Manti didn't win the Heisman because he didn't get
many yardage on D's side but KVA might as well play some offense during
2013 (he did menioned to Bronco after that bowl game, wink wink). But, nah he
won't win it because Johnny from A&M might win it again.
0-ferOr, Van Noy could go from 2nd team All-American and 2nd/3rd
round draft pick, to 1st team All-American, Butkus Award Winner, guaranteed 1st
round draft pick, along with being a key component of an incredible team. Unfortunately for U, Van Noy chose the path that our nervous friends up
north were all hoping he wouldn't.It's a great day to be a
"You will not regret this decision"Unless of course he pulls
a Reynolds and goes from first/second round pick with guaranteed millions to not
even drafted.and loses to his rival for the fourth time in his
career, ending his career without knowing what it feels like to beat your
rivaland his team fails to win a WAC championship as Utah State
again proves to be the second best program in the state. KVN should
have taken the money and run.
Kyle Van Noy - solid. You will not regret this decision.
