Does Preece do any home work on these kids? The Baxter kid from Wasatch isn't even wrestling this year! So, I guess they might want a new alternate at 3A 182. I'm sure they won't need one, but it would maybe serve as a little bit of an honor to some kid who is actually working hard and practicing to be named an alternate for this team.

joseywales:

Thanks for the feedback--the committee shall be so advised to go with your recommendation to look for an additional alternate as every year an alternate or two is needed to wrestle.

If you read closely, you will see the word COMMITTEE. Committee suggests more than one individual involved in the process. Of course it is easy to take shots at the people putting in the time and the work to do this event, Preece among them. If you are a wrestling fan, as it might be surmised here, show up the all-star dual, find out how you can serve and get involved. The selection committee, as well as the general all-star committee that has other tasks involved in the event, has grown and evolved over the years and they welcome those with a sincere interest in the sport and this event in particular. All you need to do is put in the time and work and it does take some time and work. So joseywales (great screen name BTW), in the spirit of your screen name, time to put up or shut up.

BTW the pay is great and the benefits are even better :)

Oh my. Someone gets easily offended. That or they didn't get what they wanted from Santa. I simply asked if you did your homework. Fact: You didn't. How else would you explain adding someone's name to a list that wasn't even participating in the sport this year? You can go on and on about committees and how overworked and underpaid you are, or you could "put up" and simply admit the mistake. The only reason I brought it to light is that to me, it's an honor to be included in this event, and I would rather see someone deserving (meaning that they were actually wrestling this year) receive the honor.

I love the all star event, I haven't yet missed one. I am involved as my schedule allows with many youth entities and within the community. So I will decline your offer for now, but keep it open for the future, but thank you anyway. So to me that is "putting up" so I guess I won't shut up quite yet. Congrats on the success of this event, and to the committee, thanks for all your hard work. JW

Why are there no South Sevier wrestlers invited? They have several in contention for state titles this year.

Can anyone give information about starting times and cost. Article just says Jan. 8th at UVU.

Josey Wales:

Why did you suppose it was Preece's job to do his homework or if he is solely responsible for the selection of the all-star wrestlers.

Also read, paragraph one of my previous response and read between the lines for admission.

Thanks for attending but beyond that I don't think you have "put up" anything, the invitation is still open. Find a member of the committee at the all-star dual and let's put you work, evidently you seem to like wrestling and working with the youth and again we are a welcoming.

DT: The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students. The wrestling will start at 7:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!

It should be a great event and as one that has been heavily involved with pretty much from its onset, I take pride in its purpose and execution. There are plenty of people that have put in their time and energy to make this event one of the premier prep athletic events in any sport and I applaud and support their efforts.

Thanks for the response. My son and I will be attending. Happy that there are those willing to work to put events like this together.

YOUR RIGHT joseywales from Park City...who did there homework? Baxter isn't even wrestling this season, Robby Miner @ 126 who just beat 4A Brady Dart (Mountain Crest); and the kid from 3A Bear River tonight is even considered as an alternate?

JD Books, which wrestlers from South Sevier did you feel had outperformed this year's 1A/2A all-stars/alternates?

South Sevier's top wrestlers from last season did not return (other than one placer - 4th) and I don't recall seeing any of this year's wrestlers with any big wins?

Sometimes it is difficult to keep track of the 1A/2A wrestlers because the teams do not publicly report their match results.

Wrestling Mom:

The decisions for these have to be made shortly after the third weekend in December so biographical information, photographs etc. can be collected for the newspaper as well as notifying the participants themselves.

As for Miner not being selected, he is a good wrestler for sure. But he is also in a different classification than Dart of Mountain Crest. Kunder took third in state vs. Miner who took fourth, again a tough call for the committee. I think they had a one-point match at Bear River this weekend, again much later for any possible decision being made.

As a coach I had three wrestlers take state that were NOT picked as all-stars. We did NOT feel slighted but I rather challenged them to use not being selected as motivation. I understood that the committee had to make tough decisions based on the information at their disposal and timing.

BTW--some alternates will take the mat. McKay Parrish of Box Elder will replace Jesse Carlisle as the 4A 145-pound representative and Derek Johnson of Payson will replace Daniel Bulloch as the 3A 220-pound representative. I believe the 145-pound match-ups will change too.
