Great story. Thanks. Yeah, we glorify violence in movies, music, and video games. We even give hero status to people who kill for the state (US drones have killed many many more innocent people than what happened on Friday). Friday's events cause us to rethink and wonder if maybe this constant stream of violence is really what we want. Maybe, just maybe, peace is what we should be searching for. And, you're not going to find it coming from Hollywood.
Thoughtful, well-written article. Thank you.
"They exist because we eat them up and demand more, and it is undeniable that media violence has grown more graphic and intense even as violent crime has consistently declined,"
Yup, and gun sales have gone up too. So despite what all the fear mongers tell you, America is a better place than it was several decades ago.
Why not boycott movies that are full of violence? Nothing gets hollywood's attention like a flop at the box office.
