This will open a big can of worms.

The next thing you know, people will want to see:
-Alabam Crimson Tide vs. the Cleveland Browns
-Lebron play Jordon one-on-one
-BYU vs. Utah in 2014
-Messi vs. Pele vs. Maradona
-The Spartans fight the Mongols

While I am totally behind this tournament, this is only really the tip of the iceberg.

I think all state champion wrestlers from every classification should be able to participate. Make it a day long tournament. Many times some of the best wrestlers in the state, are from 3A and 2A.

UTEFAN!@: They are allowed to compete. I think each classification can send several of its state placers to the event.

It is a great start but the process for a lot of us that love wrestling is not complete. Many in the wrestling community would like this to be the formalized individual state championship and the team state state championship decided by the dual meet format. Right now it is a post-season event but not the sponsored UHSAA state championship. My preference would be to expand this to a 32-man bracket similar to California. But it is UHSAA sanctioned, now it is up to the wrestling community to support it so it can be taken to its logical and awesome level. The UHSAA wants to see wrestlers making the trip, and fans attending the meet. If this happens this would radically change the face of competition perhaps for other individual sports like golf and tennis. Why could they not also have a true state championship for individual athletes. I would love to see those great golfers from the 3A St. George schools battle it out with those top 4A/5A golfer in high school events.

teleste: You sound a little saracastic with your comment it reminds me of a time when a parent in the 5A division said there isn't a team in 2 and 3A that can compete with our school because we have more talet to choose from, now this statement is true but believe me there is some outstanding athletes in 3,2,and 1A schools that can beat anyone in this State only problem is people like you don't have any respect for them or don't want to explain how a small town school program beat up on a bigger school. Just ask the HS Coach for baseball at Bingham if they will play a 2A school in preseason they will tell you no way reason being if they got beat by a small school it really effects their rankings and is embarrassing to their program, and gives them nothing if they win. This is why I think EVERY sport should have a playoff system for a true State Champion every year lets put all the cards out on the table and see whos bluffing! Anyone can win it all but they need the chance to prove it!

great idea, but I hope they expand the entrants from the smaller schools. It's well known that the smaller divisions have been pretty equal to 4A/5A for many years. You could use a 32 man bracket. All divisions get their placers (1-6th, except 1A who only place 4) that gives you 28 kids. Maybe use rankings to allow the top 4 kids first round byes and then seed accordingly or something like that. This would be a fun tourney to watch!

yankees27: I prefer that format too. Every state placer should have a standing invite for this tournament...
