Lone Peak may be the first BOYS team ranked number one in the State, but I do believe Mountain View High School Girls basketball was THE FIRST UTAH high school basketball team ranked number one in the nation back in the '90s.
I think you're right...that Mountain View team with a pair of tall twins 10 or so years ago. I also think Alta High has had a few of its girls soccer teams either at No. 1 or 2 nationally.
But a forgivable mistake for the DN sports staff. And with these national tournaments pitting some of the best teams against each in boys basketball, the national rankings for boys basketball are probably more legit.
The Mtn. View team was the one with Michelle Harrison who was a McDonalds All American. Lone Peak is a very good team, hopefully they can show well in Florida.
Michell Harrison did not play on the national champion team. In fact, in the two seasons that Michelle played for MVHS (she played for Lehi her freshman & sophomore years), the Bruins did not even win the state championship.
