Utah should be embarrassed......even my friends who are Ute fans are having a tough time chocking this one down. The Utes can spin this any way they want to but their arrogance is astounding.

The rivalry is dead. It doesn't benefit either team to play the game.

Utah is clearly moving on; BYU [fans] should follow suit.

Tell that to the U fans that rushed the field three times against BYU.

@eelek62

I agree with you. Rushing the field is ridiculous 95% of the time. The MUSS needs to stay in its section.

Playing BYU does not enhance their recruiting footprint.
Utah enhances their exposure into northern CA by playing
Fresno.

@Jeeves.....doesn't Utah play Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC? How does having ANOTHER Northern California game increase recruiting? We're not that stupid.

Since this the Deseret News I will just say I am really annoyed with Utah dropping BYU. I am a Utah alumnus and the game with BYU was always THE game of the year. It would not be the game in the future that it once was since it was often for the conference championship, but it would still be the major rivalry it always was.
Fresno State? Fresno Sate? Who the heck is Fresno State? There might be some advantages to Utah in dropping BYU but making its fans happy isn't one of them.

The Utes have never won a game in Fresno, how does that work for recruiting in Northern California.

Maybe Utah wanted a challenge.

Even when BYU has a better team Utah still wins.

Yeah, you'll want to pick up those special valley boys as recruits from Fresno. Be honest, hill made a mistake and playing Fresno makes no sense at all. Here hoping they beat u twice and help keep u from being bowl eligible for three straight years. Makes all that money with nowhere to go in December taste pretty sour!

Utah's world doesn't revolve around BYU and it is high time BYU fans realize that.

-----------

UCLA and USC are in Southern California. We don't play Cal and we only play at Stanford in 2014. So we only play one conference game in Northern California over the next 3 years.

That being said, the market is in LA era which is why everyone wanted to play USC or UCLA each year.

I'm glad you have something to cheer for, since your team has proven they can't even beat a bad Utah team.

@ Sammy

You really think losses in 1989, 1992, and 1997 are really going to deter potential recruits? We know BYU fans like live in the past, but the rest of the world doesn't put a lot of stock in football accomplishments of the 80s and 90s.

@ cns

You should watch more college football. If you don't know who Fresno St. is than you aren't paying attention.

It's not puzzling, Utah hasn't be straight up with this issue since it began. This move clearly uncovers Utah's motives. They want to severe all ties from the state and be connected with California. Basically, little bro has become prodigal and forgotten his roots, to good now for the state.

re:uteology Glad you won your bowl game.

Do you really think the Utes are going to win these games?

The last time you played Fresno you beat them by 1 point on a neutral field.

You need to remember your roots and how well your team represents in the WAC and MWC these days.

Wow, reading all of the posts from the cougar nation, you'd think the world is ending because the Utes choose not to play byu.

It only supports the notion byu needs Utah, not the other way around. The Ute's schedule will be just fine, whether they play byu, or not.

Get over it, it is NOT that big of a deal. All of the pouting can be put aside, because the deal with Fresno is finalized, and won't be changed.

It's worth it, just to see all of the angry BYU fans. It's funny, Utah fans don't give a rip it we play BYU or not; yet BYU fans get all bent out of shape. I guess it's pretty easy to see which program needs the other, and which doesn't.

Being a UTE fan, even I’m disappointed in this decision!!! I would rather keep the Rivalry over a meaningless game with Fresno. If our opponent was a BIG 10 school and would make our scheduler tougher, that would make sense. Now we jus look scared to play bYwho?!!! Bad Move Hill

The most pathetic thing about the entire situation are the reaction of spurned BYU fans, assuming everything that Utah does is about them. I understand a little bit of the puzzlement (I would much rather see Utah play BYU), but so many are 100% sure that Utah's actions with conference expansion, scheduling, etc. have everything to do with BYU. It's time to move on. It's not always about BYU. In fact, it's rarely, if ever, about BYU. BYU is just not as important a program as BYU fans think it is.
