I was in an airport hundreds of miles from home when I saw the news about columbine. My two kids didn't go to that school and we do not live in the state but I immediately called home to make sure they were safe anyway.

Two things:

One, you gave a great example of the hole in the theory like blocks of "quality time" aren't a substitute for being home every night so you can be there at "the right time," those unplanned times when your family needs you, or you need them.

Second, "(our 1-month-old boy only eats, sleeps and cries)." You forgot one: fills diapers.
