Fantastic win for the jazz. Much more so than the one on the road against the lakers as the spurs are a much better team at this time. Couple of points. Jazz-fans (including me) on twitter were heavily against Mo taking clutch shots. If he had missed the last one, it would have been a tsunami of criticisms! :) Even on hindsight, the shot does not feel correct. No screens.. no options.. and if as Coach Pops wanted Green had stepped up..it would have either resulted in a blocked shot..or forced. However, I think jazz need someone like Mo to set the tone in the final minutes. A devil may care attitude and able to take the final shot come what may. Al is good but he is not clutch. Case in pt: the blocked floater against clips..come on al Dunk it! Millsap is clutch..and now Mo. The rest can get confidence from these guys..and they need a lot of it. Go Jazz! Tough road trip coming up..atleast 3 wins! :)
Come on Jazz fans where are the comments this year? Comment boards usually fill up after these types of games.
Awesome finish, awesome shot. 14-3 run to end the game. Nothing sweeter than seeing the fans in pandemonium, while the Spurs duck their heads and walk off the floor. On national tv baby.
I saw the highlight of the shot. The shot came from "way downtown" and to the right of the arc. He was practically sitting in Corbin's lap. Both Milsap and Jefferson are playing at a high level. There was a shot of AJ taking a six foot "finger roll" with plenty of confidence. Millsap was running rings around the Spur defense. Both are playing with expiring contracts. There are a number of others who are doing the same. The only note of caution appears to be the continuing sitting of Favors and Kanter. As Clint Eastwood said in "Heartbreak Ridge", we have a dilemma. It looks like AJ and Mill will "play out the string" and rumors such as Millsap for Gasol are just that.
Sweet shot by Mo! Go Jazz Baby! Finally beating our nemesis of the past 15 years.
I would put this right below Stockton's three against Houston and just above Karl Malone's fleet of beautifully painted semi trucks, in terms of greatest Jazz moments.
Such a great win! Everyone single player played well. We are deeper than we've ever been!
Great win against a great team!
Thrilled the team is showing some progress.
Now lets get back to reality.
You have 6.9 seconds left. Mo isolates, doesn't drive to the basket, but instead jacks up a well contested 26-28 foot shot after he had missed all 3 previous 3pt attempts. Even though he made it that is a bad decision by a supposed team leader and if Corbin called that play then it is bad coaching as well.
This entire city would be screaming about all of the poor decision-making and coaching if Mo would have missed but since he got lucky it gets ignored.
Personally I think Mo has alot of talent but at least 3-6 possessions a night he takes very bad shots. Way to casual. Literally drives down the floor, 15 plus seconds left on the shot clock, team mates jogging down to get in position and he takes a contested 3 point shot with nobody in range to even rebound. That is what ball hog Russell Westbrooke does.
Wasting that many possessions is bad for the team.
It looked like favors is still recovering from the injury. Overall, what a game!! I love my Jazz! GO JAZZZZZZZ :D
I am a little critical about the last play. When watching the replay you can see the other players were not setting up anything inside as the p,ay was designed for Mo to take that last shot. I'm usually comfortable with Mo doing that but the bigs, and Hayward were playing well and working the ball for a play inside gives you a chance of getting to the foul line too. It worked and I'll take it but Jazz Source is right, if Mo misses that shot everyone would be really ticked off on these comment boards.
I do want to say that watching the Spurs play is a real pleasure. This team has a lot of class and they may knock you on the floor playing aggressively like they do, but they also have the class to extend a hand and help you up. This is another small market team like the Jazz and they are the best at playing as a team and don't need to depend on a few superstars. If the Jazz can't win the championship l will support the Spurs against any other trash talking team in tHe league.
Once again..I don't understand why Corbin benched Tinsley in favor of Watson. I thought Watson made some pretty good plays, but he takes stupid shots and never makes them. Tinsley runs the team better and is better offensively. At least the opposing team has to guard him..with Watson they can just back off and play 5 on 4.
Millsap and Jefferson actually played together pretty good. Jefferson competed against the Spurs for a change. They keep this up and there will be a lot of celebrations.
Great win for the Jazz.
It was nice to see them battle through adversity at the end and pick up the win.
Al was a beast, once again. I especially liked his steal and finish at the other end during crunch time.
Millsap played like the Paul of old and Hayward was knocking down big threes.
Sure Mo took some questionable shots, but I applaud Corbin for sticking with him. Sometimes you have to trust a player and go with your gut. In the end it paid off.
Best Jazz game I've seen in a long time. For some reason that shot brought back memories of 1997 Western conference finals, John Stockton's game winner vs the Rockets.
The final play call was confusing to me, but after thinking more about it, I liked the call. Originally, I wished the ball was in the hands of Milsap or Jefferson. However I think Corbin recognized the danger of the Spurs team defense, and putting the ball in the lane gives us a higher likelihood of getting a turnover. I think Corbin decided that he would rather have one clear shot in isolation than a possible turnover or a double/triple team situation in the paint. If Mo missed, it would have been overtime, and we still had a chance.
I can just picture Jefferson/Milsap getting the ball in the post, getting triple-teamed, trying to kick it out only to have the ball tipped and intercepted. Then the Spurs call a timeout and they get the last shot instead of us. The more I think about the play, the more I like it. Let our veteran PG take a young player 1 on 1 and trust his judgement and ability. That being said, I would have probably been really mad if he had missed.
