I've seen religion "save" as many lives as I've seen "ruined".
Faith, Hope and Charity all have positive influences on people.
but,
The Guilt, Shame, and Judgement - mostly coming for so-called "believers" can destroy.
Christ taught the 1st set of behaviors,
and told us to never offend committing the 2nd.
Yes, "exploring ideas" is a powerful tool when dealing with illness - both physical and mental.
That said, an idea's capacity to make you feel better about yourself says nothing about the truthfulness of the idea.
Shouldn't an idea's ability to withstand objective criticism be part of the exploration?
Does honesty matter in this process?
How about dogs. Don't dog owners also heal quicker and live longer?
I have no doubt that a positive mental state can help with ones physical healing.
If that is achieved thru religion, fine. If Fido does it for you, fine also.

But, what if you are dyslexic & have a dog?
