Way to represent Wilsonville, Johnny! My HOMETOWN!

Can't wait to see you in Cougar Blue!

3 star rated... big deal...

The vast majority of Utah's recruits are rated 3-stars or fewer (mostly fewer).

If you were a USC fan, that comment might make some sense; for a Utah fan, you're simply grasping at straws.

Isn't it enough just to wish him well and welcome him to your school? Many of these posts are simply laughable, some of you are into bragging about getting a recruit that had offers from another PAC 12 school. He seems to be very solid recruit, but please...nobody wins all the recruiting battles not even U$C or Oregon. The question you should be asking yourselves is how many kids did BYU miss out on to PAC 12 schools because of the HC and environment?

Salt Lake City, UT

Just wondering,
By the tone of your question I don't think you would understand the answer.

Tanner and Johnny attend our local high school and we're so proud of both of them. Tanner is a fine young man--he attends our ward and we couldn't be happier for him and his future. Can't wait to see both of them in BYU blue next fall!

Sweet, another outstanding linebacker to come play for the Cougs. Lets hope he is the BYU "Jonny Football".

Actually Utah has 24 commits and 21 of them are 3 star or higher.

BYU has 9 commits ranked 3 star or higher.

BYUs recruiting class is currently ranked 52nd... Utahs class is ranked 28th.

Even with its higher ranker recruiting class the DN doesn't publish articles referring to Utah recruits as "top" recruits.

LOL at your spin.

Utah currently has 24 commits - only ONE is rated higher than a 3 star.

Interestingly, the same number of 4-star recruits as BYU.

What's truly laughable about the obsession Utah fans have with stars, is Utah fans are constantly bragging about Utah's 0-star walk-ons.

If a 0-star walk-on can be great and a 5-star commit can be a bust, just how much stock should we put in stars anyway?

USC currently has 16 commits, FIVE 5-star, ELEVEN 4-star, NONE with less than 4 stars. USC gets more 4- and 5- recruits in a single year, than Utah gets in a decade.

Let's see you spin how the Utes are EVER going to win the PAC 12 South, let alone the PAC 12 championship with such an overwhelming disparity in stars.

Begin spin cycle...

Wait... I'm confused... I thought independent BYU couldn't ever possibly compete with the Pac 12 in recruiting. I thought BYU Football was doomed now that Utah was in the Pac 12 and no good recruits would ever go to BYU ever again. Why did he turn down Pac 12 offers to play at BYU? Can someone please explain this to me?

@ Howard S.

Despite the fact that he was only rated three stars, half of the PAC teams were recruiting him. And come to think of it, all of those teams are better than Utah. So please explain how it is that all of a sudden he has no talent? Does one ever get tired of talking out of both sides of their mouth?

You're fine; it's our friends on the hill have always been confused by the stars in their eyes.

Like Howard S., they only make a big deal about stars when it conveniently suits their agenda, then the become completely oblivious to stars when the start talking about Utah's chances of being competitive in the PAC 12.

Let's just put it this way:

Utah will NEVER, not in a million years, EVER, have a recruiting class ranked higher than USC!

Leaving the pointless stars discussion,

Welcome aboard Johnny Ragin - we're looking forward to seeing you continue BYU's tradition of outstanding linebackers.

I took "Just Wondering"'s question to be rhetorical, sarcastic, and a dig at those who proclaim superiority for the Pac 12, which is why I "liked" it.

With regard to "Silent Lurker", there was some validity to your comment, except for this line: "The question you should be asking yourselves is how many kids did BYU miss out on to PAC 12 schools because of the HC and environment?" BYU, Stanford, Notre Dame, and any other school that has restrictions of some sort on the kind of players they can recruit know going in that they are at a disadvantage from the start to the Oregon's of the world. BYU of course is the most disadvantaged of the aforementioned three because of the Honor Code (don't know specifically what Notre Dame has, but, if nothing else, there are many million more Catholics from which to recruit). So for BYU to win a non-LDS recruit on the West Coast against decent competition is indeed something to be happy about. I do note that, despite being from Oregon, the Ducks were not listed as being interested. But, according to Rivals, neither were they in Kyle Van Noy.

stars smars

The only thing I care about is heart and the determination to succeed.

I'd much rather have team full of 2- and 3-star recruits who are committed to working their tails off to be successful, than a bunch of 4- and 5-stars who think they're going to be successful just by showing up at the stadium on game day.

Johnny Ragin seems to be just the type of player every BYU fan should be thrilled about joining the Cougars.

Welcome aboard!

Wake me up when Utes out recruit USC or better yet... when they play post season again.

Uh....utah does not have a single recruit ranked "higher" than a 3 star. None. BYU on the otherhand does. Nice lie.

This is amazing! He is #1 linebacker, 4 stars and best vertical leap and wing span. We are amazing in recruiting and this should almost guarantee a BCS game next year. He is a game changer. I have seen him play in high school and he will start as a freshman. watch out!

Nice try troll!

Johnny Ragin does look like he has the talent and work ethic to be as good or maybe even better than KVN someday, but only if he maintains the same work ethic and intensity as KVN throughout his career at BYU.

west jordan, utah

Again with the typical byu fan response, since byu cant beat Utah on the field you will live thru some other team like Usc.

Ok i'll play along, wake me up when you out recruit NOTRE DAME,or at least sniff a BCS bowl.We wont even mention the words byu and national title.Yeah i know you have one, The IRISH have 10 and soon to have 11.

It's obvious that this smart kid saw how the exposure BYU gets from their ESPN deal can turn an unknown like Ziggy and Van Noy into top NFL draft picks. That's exposure not even the Pac-12 can match! I guess that's why Ute fans are still Just Wondering :)

Welcome Johnny Ragin! You're going to be very happy with this decision from all points!
