The headline should be --- Where the sports journalists should go when they try stop being journalists and try to be coaches --- and policy makers --

@hamaca-also, I believe a BYU head coach has to be LDS, so that would eliminate Sark.

What? Bronco talked to the media? I can't believe it!

If he goes to a BCS AQ, the smart money is on his alma mater. Is Mike Riley retiring anytime soon?

Of Andy Reid, Norm Chow, Steve Sarkisian, Mike Leach,

Andy Reid is the only somewhat realistic possibility to replace Bronco.

Norm Chow wouldn't even consider it - too much bad blood.
Steve Sarkisian has no reason to leave a fast improving PAC 12 program.
Mike Leach has way too many "issues" with his players.

Tom Holmoe or Robbie Bosco could be possibilities, although Holmoe would probably only consider it on a short-term basis.

    Bottom line:

Bronco is an excellent coach. He's alienated some of his fans, but he's also produced a winning and well-respected program. True, he's made some mistakes, but hopefully lessons have been learned and better decisions will be made in the future. Until a viable successor who is obviously much more capable than Bronco is available, BYU fans would be wise to continue supporting Bronco.

Two years after Bronco leaves, the fans will finally realize what they had.

And be even happier that he's gone.

Does he read this comment section or DN? Think not. He is staying.

ideally, Bronco would stay on as defensive coordinator when Andy Reid comes to BYU after being fired from the Eagles and Doman is replaced with Ty Detmer as offensive coordinator. That's a whole lot of wishing right there.

If BYU meets or exceeds expectations in 2013, Bronco will stay past this next year's contract. If not, he either:

    1. Will not be offerred a contract, or
    2. Will turn down an offerred contract

If Holmoe can iron out the offense for 2013, BYU will likely at least meet expectations. I look for BYU to do so.

People that post on these boards don't represent the fan base. Most fans agree with these articles that question coaching status quo. They just don't post. Most of the frequent "posters" have to "one-up" their counterpart Ute "posters." Any stated weakness, especially at coaching position, represents admission of being inferior to their Ute counterpart for the next argument. Cougs & Utes discussing who is best these days, is kinda like an advertised heavyweight fight between Gomer vs Goober or Pee Wee vs Bieber. Both teams stink (are really bad) offensively. BYU won't be a serious "contender" for anything remotely BCS until they get serious about the coaching position ... from the top down. What is there to lose ... a WAC game? Oh dear. Everything to gain ... very little to lose.

    eastcoastcoug,

It's a good questions. Gary Crowton seemed perfect on paper, but failed to reach expectations. We forget that part of the reason BYU fans had such high expectations before the season was due to Bronco's development of the defense.

Having said that, I would think any of the following could come in a enjoy reasonable success: Andy Reid, Norm Chow, Steve Sarkisian, Mike Leach.

What a stupid article. Bronco should stay at BYU. We have no guarantee whatsoever of getting anyone at his level or quality. Quit baiting the fans...

Like Oklahoma? I realize a case could be made for "what have you done for me lately?" How about Utah State? How about Notre Dame? A loss, yes, but certainly no fold against the now #1 team. At their place.

It's time for Bronco to leave. He's a good coach, but folds under pressure when he faces a ranked team. His decisions against tough opponents are horrible and cost games. He frankly chokes in preparing the team. His choice of Doman as offensive coordinator is offensive. Doman is a bust and needs to go elsewhere. He's just not mature enough to know what he's doing or what offensive plays to call (currently boring and predictable). Where should Bronco go? I don't care, as long as it's not at BYU. And he'd is better suited as a defensive coordinator not a head coach.

This is just plain pathetic. You put Bronco up to be beaten for no reason. I'm amazed he stays with all the garbage he gets put through. Shame on you, DesNews, for such a ridiculous article and concept.

Stay at BYU and get a contract renewal. Dump Doman in favor of a Ty Detmer type of quality head coach (albeit at a jr level) and groove him to take over the program in 3-5 years when Bronco decides he is really done coaching. Bronco is good for BYU....not so good for the boosters/Cougar Club donors who want 12 win seasons every year and to win an occasional big game more than once every two years.... but good for BYU and the student athletes and for The Church.

Everyone who knows anything about who owns BYU, also knows the simple reality is that if the program brings dishonor to the University, it also brings dishonor to the 'owner'. On that day, football ceases as a program at BYU. I'll take 8-10 wins a year from an honorable, toe-the-line kind of head football coach guy; just to keep football playing in the Fall. No, I don't want to be a Miami, Penn State, Ohio State, USC kind of program. If we were, that is the end of Cougar football. And, there is no way I'm going to start wearing red in the fall.

Does the desnews really want to see if they can get a coach dumped, or is this shameless display an attempt to rile the otherwise normally placid BYU fan base?

Was the purposae of this story to make us think the sports staff are clever or to remind us of their talent to see what others cannot?
By the way, this is NOT news. It is now even speculation since he said he is staying put.

They say never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrell, so I won't say more. I would voice a stronger opinion but you wouldn't print it.
